The week ahead: Jan. 19-25
The Week Ahead is our hand-picked event guide to the next seven days in Sioux Falls and slightly beyond. For guaranteed placement or to promote your event ahead of time, email [email protected] about a featured event listing.
Jan. 19-21: Sno Jam Comedy Festival
If you can’t laugh at the snow, maybe you can laugh during it? To do that, head to the Sno Jam Comedy Festival, which runs from Thursday through Saturday. You’ll find who’s performing where here. It’s a fundraiser for The Compass Center of Sioux Falls and The Transformation Project of South Dakota.

Jan. 20: Noon concert
Pack a lunch and head to the Old Courthouse Museum for a noon concert Friday. East of Westreville will perform everything from foot-stomping blues to bluegrass. The event is free.

Jan. 20-21: Crazy Days
We’re in the dog days of winter, if that’s a thing, when we need something fun to do. That’s why Friday and Saturday have been dubbed Crazy Days for Downtown Sioux Falls stores and restaurants.

To get a look at the deals being offered, visit the Downtown Sioux Falls Inc. website.

Jan. 21: Operation HopeFULL
SuFu Creative Events will host Operation HopeFULL, a fundraiser to help Sioux Falls children continue to eat warm lunches at school. More than 20 vendors will offer a variety of artwork, and the artists also are donating items for a raffle. Cost of a ticket is $5, which will pay for breakfast and lunch for one student for one day. Students with unpaid lunch bills will start receiving sack lunches after January. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Falls Overlook Cafe.

Jan. 22: Get your skates on
If you made a resolution to try something new, the Sioux Falls Roller Dollz welcome you to come watch a practice skate. They’ll even have skates and gear for you to use if you want to do more than watch. Practice will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the Armory Building at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds.

Jan. 24: Author visit
It’s likely you’ve heard of the Younger Gang, outlaws who once terrorized the Upper Midwest. It’s unlikely you’ve heard of the teenage boy who helped apprehend them. Arley Kenneth Fadness has written about the young boy’s exploits in the book “Capturing the Younger Brothers Gang in the Northern Plains: The untold story of a heroic teen Asle Sorbel.” He’ll talk about the book from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ronning Branch Library, 3100 E. 49th St.

Jan. 24-29: Farm Show
Seventy years ago, the Greater Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce hosted the first Sioux Empire Livestock Show. After seven decades, this salute to area agriculture is still going strong. The events run Tuesday through Sunday at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds. They include market and purebred livestock from across the country, as well as youth contests, the Mayor’s Round-Up & Sale of Champions and the latest in agricultural commercial exhibits. Find the full schedule here.
