The week ahead: Feb. 9-15
The Week Ahead is our hand-picked event guide to the next seven days in Sioux Falls and slightly beyond. For guaranteed placement or to promote your event ahead of time, email [email protected] about a featured event listing.
Feb. 10: Hideaways seen in art
“Between Spaces,” the newest show in the Ipso Gallery at Fresh Produce, 400 N. Main Ave., explores the secret worlds of hideaways as seen by artist Rick Johns. His pieces respond to the environment around him, both imaginary and real. The opening event is 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. The show is open through March 24.

Feb. 10: Drag show competition
For a fabulous night, plan on attending the Local Talent Drag Show at Club David, 214 W. 10th St. The doors open at 8 p.m. Friday, with the show beginning at 9 p.m. The event features area entertainers and precedes the Ultimate Entertainer Pageant competition Saturday.

Feb. 11-12: Downtown boutique crawl
The inaugural downtown Sioux Falls boutique crawl — Galentine’s Day style — will run Saturday and Sunday. It involves discounts, deals, drinks and a special schedule of events. You could win a grand prize valued at more than $500. Participating boutiques include Chelsea’s, MK Threads, Primp, Terra Shepherd, Layered Elements, Threads by Simply Perfect, Veza, Lauriebelles, JuLiana’s Boutique La Femme and Mint & Basil.

Feb. 11: Pride Poetry
Punk Poetry will present Pride Poetry: Winter Pride at 8 p.m. Saturday at Full Circle Book Co-op, 123 W. 10th St. If you like poetry and want to read it, you’re welcome. If you just want to listen to poetry, you’re welcome. It’s a way to support queer poets.

Feb. 12: Hearts on Fire
Hearts are on fire at Valentine’s Day, and for a unique fire experience, plan to attend Love on Fire, presented by South Dakota Aerial & Arts. A 30-minute experience will teach you basic fire tricks with fans and palm torches. Sessions at the studio at 1200 E. Third St. cost $30 and are at 6:30 and 7:15 p.m. Sunday.

Feb. 14: Date night in a book store
For some of us, the famous poem could be changed to “an unread book and thou beside me.” That’s why a date night in a bookshop might be appealing. It will take place from 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Full Circle Book Co-op, 123 W. 10th St. Full table service will include a charcuterie board and dessert, a beverage, two Polaroid photos and a gift bag — with a book voucher! Make reservations at Full Circle.

Frost one perfect cookie for your valentine — or yourself — in an event at Pomegranate Market, 4815 S. Louise Ave. The Valentine’s Day Cookie Frosting takes place from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday. It’s free.
