Feb. 19: Skating party

Shine Your Light is a glow skating party for all ages and families at Jacobson Plaza, 810 N. Phillips Ave., from 6 to 7:45 p.m. Thursday. Sioux Falls Parks & Recreation will dim the lights, turn up the music and bring the energy. There will be bumper cars and prize giveaways throughout the night. Purchase a skate session to be entered into a drawing for four-packs of TobyMac concert tickets. A drawing will choose families to compete in a fast-paced snowball shovel relay on the green space.

Feb. 21: Dance throw down

A 45-minute, high-energy, hip-hop dance throw down that will feel like a party will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fit Body Boot Camp, 3324 S. Duluth Ave., along with Dance Fitness With Janelle. No dance experience is needed for these hip-hop moves, cardio and full-body fitness. Doors will open at 9:30 a.m. The cost is $10 per person. It’s open to members and nonmembers.

Feb. 21: Eagle watch

Valentine’s Day is over, but for eagles, the month of February is the beginning of breeding season. You might glimpse the courtship ritual at the bald eagle watch from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Arrowhead Park, 1600 River Bluff Road. Binoculars and a spotting scope will be available. Coffee and hot cocoa will be provided. There also will be a stroll around the park searching for other winter birds. No registration is required, but tours will start promptly.

Feb. 22: Puzzle races

Speed matters! From 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, you can gather friends and see who can assemble jigsaw puzzles the fastest. The competition at Severance Brewing Co., 701 N. Phillips Ave., is free to play, and teams can include up to six players. There will be five rounds with one 100-piece puzzle per round. Gift cards will be given to the top three winning teams. Seating is first come, first served.

Feb. 22: Rock Ranch Night

From 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, it’s Rock Ranch Night at the Sioux Falls Stampede game against the Fargo Force. Every ticket purchased at this link means a $5 donation for Rock Ranch, a nonprofit that provides riding lessons and tours for children and seniors, and equine-assisted counseling for everyone. The game will begin at 4:05 p.m. at the Denny Sanford Premier Center.

Feb. 22: Hot dish competish

After a five-year hiatus, the All Saints Neighborhood Association and Friends of McKennan Park will go head-to-head on their version of a community dinner. It will run from 5 to 7 p.m. at DakotAbilities Longfellow Center, 1116 S. Fourth Ave. Categories include hot dish, notdish (vegetarian), totdish (kids entry) and dessert bars. Celebrity judging is at 4:30 p.m., while the public will vote for people’s choice. To register to compete, buy tickets, or just learn more, click here.
