The Week Ahead is our hand-picked event guide to the next seven days in Sioux Falls and slightly beyond. For guaranteed placement or to promote your event ahead of time, email [email protected]s about a featured event listing.

Feb. 5: First Friday

Downtown is filled with activities for First Friday. Enjoy free admission to the Kirby Science Discovery Center and the Visual Arts Center in the Washington Pavilion. Get half-price pitchers of domestic beer while you throw axes at Escape 605. Get the complete rundown here.

Feb. 6: Ice cream for breakfast

We’re still in a pandemic, and the forecast is frigid. So we all deserve ice cream for breakfast. Come to any Stensland Family Farms location for Ice Cream for Breakfast Day from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Come in your PJ’s and feast on waffles, homemade (family recipe) caramel roll bake and donuts served with ice cream, along with Fruity Pebble sundaes, hot chocolate floats and more. Plus, 10 percent of proceeds will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of the Sioux Empire.

Feb. 6: Brandon Farmers Market

Find more than a dozen vendors at the Brandon Farmers Market in the Tally-Ho Art Gallery, 515 N. Splitrock Blvd. The market is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Salas Salsas will have its signature flavors and it’s also selling hot empanadas and soup.

Feb. 6: Superhero skate party

Skate with your favorite superheroes at Campus Ice Rink, 1700 S. Summit Ave., from 1 to 3 p.m. Wear your own costume and take photos with your fellow heroes. Skate rentals will be available. No registration required.

Feb. 6-7: Benson’s Flea Market

Looking for another vintage business sign for your collection? Or want to buy a handmade gift? Benson’s Flea Market is open this weekend at the Expo Building on the W.H. Lyons Fairgrounds. Admission is $2.50; kids 12 and younger get in free. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Feb. 6-14: Sioux Falls Winter Carnival

You can see the complete Winter Carnival event guide here, but here are a couple upcoming highlights:

Once it warms up a bit, a pop-up ice rink will be in the downtown Avera Health parking lot next to the Great Outdoor Store. Skates can be rented and using the rink is free. Donations benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire. Hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the weekend.

The Wine & Whiskey Punch Pass gives you a tour of eight participating vendors for $20 as you enjoy buy-one, get-one deals.  All proceeds from sales support the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire.
Learn more and purchase your pass here.

Feb. 7: Kids ax-throwing tournament

Bring the kids downtown and let them test their skills at Escape 605 Downtown.
