Dec. 29: Live music
Medicine Place is a rising star in the underground electronic music scene, with a passion for enlightening others through his expertly curated audio experiences. Hailing from Iowa City, Iowa, he draws inspiration from a wide range of genres, bridging the gap between old-school dubstep and the modern sounds of today. He will perform at 8 p.m. Friday at Bigs Bar, 3100 W. 12th St. Also performing: Mixed Mind, Skapa, 2Crispy and Rylo Zen. Tickets cost $20 on Eventbrite.

Dec. 30: Covers concert
You can hear local bands perform covers from some of your favorite groups at the 605 Cover Show at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Icon Lounge + Event Hall, 402 N. Main Ave. Stem Cells will perform Title Fight songs, along with Lilac Jam playing Basement, Red Maker playing Pixies and Aliens Exist playing Green Day. Cost is $20. For tickets, click here.

Dec. 31: Sobriety Wacipi
South Dakota Urban Indian Health will host its second annual New Year’s Eve Sobriety Wacipi. It will be a fun-filled night full of dancing, prizes, food and community. Doors open at 5 p.m. Sunday, with the grand entry at 6:30 p.m. The host drum group is toka nuwan with Tom Wilson serving as the eyepaha and Tom DeCoteau Jr. the arena director. It all takes place in the Multi-Cultural Center at the Coliseum, 515 N. Main Ave. Admission is free.

Dec. 31: Great Shots party
Spend the evening of New Year’s Eve at Great Shots playing golf and watching fireworks. Three hours of golf starting at 7:30 p.m. Sunday are included in packages. There will be a dinner buffet, a champagne toast and party favors. To make reservations by noon Friday, click here.

Jan. 1: Winter hike
Ring in the new year at Big Sioux Recreation Area from 6 to 11 a.m. Monday. The Winter Wonderland Hike will include a photo contest this year. The self-guided hike will start at the park gazebo and finish at the overlook deck along the Valley of the Giants Trail, about a half-mile round trip. Dress up in your best New Year’s Day attire, take a photo of you or your group, and email your picture to [email protected]. Photos received by 8 a.m. Tuesday will be posted. The picture with the most likes by 8 a.m. Jan. 10 will receive a grand prize. Include your name and mailing address in your email.

Jan. 4 and 10: Kitten Yoga
Coast 2 Coast Athletic Club, 27296 Verhey Place, Tea, will host “Kitten Yoga” on three days as fundraisers with the Sioux Empire TNR Coalition. The group is working to end cat overpopulation in the area through trap=neuter and release. The SETNRC and partner The Kitten League will have adoptable kittens at the events, as well as donation drives for kitty litter, kitten food and other items. Full details can be found at:
