Dec. 19 and 22: Carol singing and ale

Beer and Hymns Sioux Falls will celebrate the season with two gatherings this week. Beer and Carols will begin at 6 p.m. today at Remedy Brewing Co., 401 E. Eighth St., and 7 p.m. Thursday at WoodGrain Brewing Co., 101 S. Phillips Ave.

Dec. 20: Author talk

New York Times best-selling author and Sioux Falls native Sam Kean will discuss medical ethics throughout history related to his most recent publication, “The Ice Pick Surgeon.” Kean’s presentation will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Wegner Health Sciences Library, 1400 W. 22nd St.

Dec. 20: Carol singing

Singer/songwriter Jenn Lee is inviting the public to sing carols Tuesday at Union Gospel Mission. Participants should gather at 6:45 p.m to be ready for the 7 p.m. event. Caroling books will be provided.

Dec. 20: Holiday yoga

Sarah Bruxvoort Yoga is inviting people to celebrate the season — whatever season they celebrate — with an evening of yoga at DaDa Gastropub, 402 N. Main Ave. The one-hour yoga session is followed by drinks and a social. The three-hour event costs $15 with a $5 credit for any purchase from DaDa.

Dec. 20: Preschool crafts

There’s still time to register for a preschool story time and holiday-themed crafts at the Museum of Visual Materials. Aimed at age 2 to 5, the event will run from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at 500 N. Main Ave.

Dec. 21: The Office trivia

The Office Trivia has returned to Sunny’s Pizzeria with a second session since the first one sold old. To register, send a message via Sunny’s Facebook page. Prizes include a Prison Mike sequin pillow and a Serenity by Jan scented candle. It begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday at 1801 S. Walts Ave.

Dec. 28: Milk-jug bowling

Here’s a family activity with a twist. Go bowling — but pins will be replaced with milk jugs, and the lane will be a sheet of ice. It’s free and runs from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Park.

Upcoming: Dec. 29

Unless snowflakes block your path, you might want to head to the Mary Jo Wegner Arboretum to hear naturalist Andrea Porter talk about Snowflake Bentley (aka meteorologist and photographer Wilson A. Bentley) and share his observations on how snowflakes form. She also will lead participants on a walk. The event is from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Dec. 29. Learn more here.
