April 27: Plant sale & swap

Eager to start planting? The fourth annual Plant Swap & Sale at the Robert L. Nielsen McCrossan Visitor Center, 47135 260th St.,  will run from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. The free event will include plants and gardening-related items to buy and swap, ranch walking tours, animal meet-and-greets and food trucks. Plant Traders and Gardeners of South Dakota is partnering with McCrossan Boys Ranch for this event.

April 27: Urban Arbor Day

A festival dedicated to educating children and adults about the importance of planting trees and honoring urban forestry will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Nelson Park. Hosted by Sioux Falls Parks & Recreation, it will include storytelling from the Bookmobile at 2 and 4 p.m., tree planting at 2 and 4 p.m., a bird-feeder craft, live music, inflatables and food.

April 27: Spring Fling at The Bridges

Head to 57th Street and Western Avenue from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday where The Bridges at 57th will host its Spring Fling event. There will be deals throughout the retail center, plus pop-up vendors and family-friendly activities in the parking lot featuring:

‱ Photo booth by Prairie Lane Vintage Rentals.
‱ Face painting by Simply Ever After Entertainment.
‱ Flower cart courtesy of Bouquet Bar by Jane Rae Events.
‱ Petting zoo featuring animals from Finny Mini Farm and Sanctuary.

April 27: Cruise in

The Saturday Night Cruise-ins will begin this Saturday and continue for 24 more weeks at the Hardee’s restaurant at 37th Street and Minnesota Avenue. Great Plains Street Rodders members and others bring their classic cars to this event, which gives visitors a chance to admire vehicles and talk with their owners.

April 28: Heroes and dogs

Superheroes and super rescue dogs will come together at 1 p.m. Sunday at Bricks & Minifigs, 2804 W. 41st St. Superhero Day will include special guests, sale prices and rescue dogs.

April 30: Buffalo tales

National award-winning oral historian Jim “Two Crows” Wallen will share the tale of the magnificent buffalo, the beasts that once roamed from Alaska to the Carolinas “in numberless numbers,” at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Old Courthouse Museum, 200 W. Sixth St. With his presentation “When the Buffalo Roamed,” Wallen will share authentic artifacts and period-accurate clothing.

April 30: Open mic

Ken’s Korner, 918 W. Sixth St., will offer an Open Mic Night at 8 p.m. Tuesday. It will be hosted by O.L.I. from The Trash Owls. All styles and genres of music are welcome. A songwriting workshop from 7 to 8 p.m. will precede Open Mic Night. Message Ken’s to sign up.
