April 24-25: Beyond the Books

Go “Beyond the Books” and hear the stories behind the stories at this event hosted by Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 909 W. 33rd St. The two-day event kicks off at 5:30 p.m. Friday with a gala and runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Tickets cost $100 for Friday and Saturday, $50 for Saturday alone. You can register here. Saturday includes presentations by authors Allen Eskins, Lorna Landvik, Stu Whitney (pictured) and Paul LaRoche of Brule. There will be book signings and a book-themed vendor fair, and breakfast pastries and a boxed lunch will be provided.

April 25: Plant sale

McCrossan Boys Ranch, 47135 260th St., will host its annual plant sale from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. The event takes place at the Visitor Center and offers plants, gardening inspiration and fun.

April 25: Greenway cleanup

The 2026 annual Big Sioux River Greenway Cleanup, the largest litter-removal event in Sioux Falls, will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.  Seven check-in stations will be located in parks along the recreation trail that follows the Big Sioux River: Falls Park, 701 N. Weber Ave., near Queen Bee Mill; Beadle Greenway Park, 824 E. 14th St., at the shelter; Rotary Park, 2408 E. 26th St., at the west shelter; Yankton Trail Park, 3901 S. Minnesota Ave., tent at soccer field 12; Sertoma Park, 4200 S. Oxbow Ave., large picnic shelter; Legacy Park, 7001 W. 12th St., near the restrooms, and Elmwood Park, 2804 W. Bailey St., picnic shelter. Volunteers can pick up cleanup supplies at check-in stations, including maps, trash bags and plastic gloves. Volunteers can pre-register for the event here. Pre-registraton saves time on Saturday and helps the city ensure that each station is stocked with enough supplies.

April 25: Earth Day and wine

Gist Wine Shop, 108 W. 11th St., will celebrate Earth Day by participating in the Big Sioux River Greenway Cleanup on Saturday. Its crew will meet at 10 a.m. at the Beadle Greenway Park shelter behind 824 E. 14th St. Click here to register. All Gist cleanup volunteers will receive a complimentary wine flight card to be redeemed at their convenience.

April 25: Spring market

The Fresh Finds Spring Market will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Prairie View Event Hall, 27091 Kerslake Place in Tea. Almost 50 vendors will be in attendance, and admission is free. Lemonade is also free, and a full bar is available. Backyard BBQ will be present. There’s a gaming room for kids to hang out in.

April 26: Paint the ice

Sponsored by Nyberg’s Ace, the Augustana Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will host Ace’s Painting Party, an annual tradition that allows area community members to paint the ice at Midco Arena. It will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Freewill donations will benefit Make-A-Wish South Dakota & Montana.

Coming up: May 1

The Cathedral of St. Joseph Sacred Arts Series will hold the inaugural concert of the new Juget-Sinclair Opus 56 organ at 7:30 p.m. May 1 at the Cathedral. The featured organist is Isabelle Demers, an internationally renowned concert artist from Montreal. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for students. For tickets, click here.
