Take a 1-tank trip to Sioux Falls this summer
This piece is sponsored by Experience Sioux Falls.
As you plan out your summer schedule, consider a weekend in South Dakota’s largest city.
Not only is Sioux Falls an affordable destination, but also it can be driven to with one tank of fuel from many places like Minneapolis, Omaha, Des Moines, Sioux City and Rapid City. Make it a good old-fashioned road-trip type of summer!
Falls Park
As you arrive in Sioux Falls, begin on a high note with a stop at the city’s namesake, Falls Park. See the water of the Big Sioux River plunge over the beautiful pink Sioux quartzite formations. With multiple viewing areas across the park, including from the top of a five-story observation tower, Falls Park offers incredible sights from every angle.

Dinner at Pizza Cheeks
Sink your teeth into one of the many delicious specialty pizzas at Pizza Cheeks with freshly made dough. Go with a classic like a margherita pizza with mozzarella, basil and olive oil, or try something a little more adventurous like the Tropical Boogie with alfredo sauce, mozzarella, Canadian bacon, pineapple, jalapenos, pecorino and hot honey.

Explore downtown
Wind down in the evening by exploring downtown Sioux Falls. See incredible works of art scattered throughout that make up SculptureWalk, snap a photo of the Arc of Dreams, visit a local shop or sip on a drink at one of the breweries or cocktail bars.

Breakfast at All Day Cafe
Rise and shine! Fuel up for the day at All Day Cafe, where you’ll find all your favorite breakfast staples and more. Fluffy pancakes? Check. Hearty omelets? Check. Perfectly cooked bacon? Check. Rest assured, you won’t leave feeling dissatisfied here.

Palisades State Park
Make the short drive to Palisades State Park, just a few miles outside of Sioux Falls, and prepare to be surprised. An unexpected and stunning landscape awaits, nestled in the middle of the prairie. Hike around the area, and take in the scenic views of the park.

Great Plains Zoo
Take a walk on the wild side at the Great Plains Zoo, where you’ll experience animal encounters with favorites like lions, bears, giraffes, monkeys, tigers and many more. Have the kids bring their swimsuit so they can enjoy the splash pad, which is free with your zoo admission.
