Sioux Falls to host Summit League basketball championships through 2025

Sioux Falls will remain home to the The Summit League Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships for at least four more years.

An extension through 2025 was signed with the Denny Sanford Premier Center. The current deal runs through 2022, when the tournament is scheduled March 5-8.

“Throughout the past 13 years, our men’s and women’s teams have provided the Sioux Falls community with a ton of memorable moments with their outstanding performances at our Basketball Championships,” Summit League Commissioner Tom Douple said in a statement.

“Our tournaments bring regional and national media attention in addition to a substantial economic impact to the community, so we are pleased to extend our agreement to keep the tournaments at the Premier Center for future years.”

The PREMIER Center and ASM Global “are thrilled to be able to keep the Summit League Basketball Championships in Sioux Falls for the next several years,” general manager Mike Krewson said.

The 14 combined men’s and women’s games will return following a one-year hiatus because of the pandemic. The 2021 event was held without fans at the Sanford Pentagon.

“The Summit League staff is excited for the opportunity to keep growing our Basketball Championships and continue to give our student‐athletes a top‐notch place to showcase their talents for the next three years,” Summit League deputy commissioner Myndee Kay Larsen said. “I know everyone associated with the event is excited to get back to the Premier Center and welcome our avid fans ‘Back To The Dance’ in 2022.”
