With its fifth reaccreditation, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue remains ranked among the top 1 percent of agencies nationwide.

The department achieved the accreditation status through the Commission on Fire Accreditation International by meeting criteria established through the CFAI’s voluntary self-assessment and accreditation program.

The new designation marks 20 years of accreditation, and combined with the department’s ISO Class 1 rating ranks it among the top 1 percent of agencies in the country.

“This achievement is a win for the community, and one that we are humbled by,” Fire Chief Matt McAreavey said in a statement. “Team SFFR is committed to excellence, and as Sioux Falls continues to grow, teamwork and collaboration drive us to take care of today as we plan for tomorrow.”

The CFAI process provides agencies with an improvement model to assess service delivery and performance. The accreditation process includes a description and appraisal of every aspect of the organization. When program opportunities are identified, an improvement plan is developed.

“Accreditation with the CFAI asserts the organization’s dedication to continuous improvement and the Sioux Falls community,” SFFR Division Chief Steve Fessler said. “Thank you to each of our public safety partners as we work together to save lives and protect property.”
