Amazing things happen in our schools every day — if you know where to look! Do you know some school news others would love? Let us know at [email protected].

Way to be good (green) citizens! R.F. Pettigrew Elementary’s 502 classroom went out after lunch with gloves and plastic bags and collected more than 12 bags of garbage from around the school and playground.

More good deeds from these students at Sioux Falls Lutheran School. After reading the story of the good Samaritan, the “fantastic fives” class hosted a lemonade stand and donated proceeds to their friend Henry, who is battling a big illness. The students learned how to make promotional signs for their stand, how to make lemonade and practiced counting all the money they made. And it was a lot — more than $1,400 to help Henry!

Way to go, buddy! This Hawthorne Elementary student was named a Hawthorne Hero for stepping up to help a fellow student being bullied and reporting it to an adult.

One of our favorite photos of the week: Sonia Sotomayor meets Barack Obama – at Sonia Sotomayor Elementary, of course.

Wow, we didn’t realize Hy-Vee Fuel Saver could pay off like this! A mom at Rosa Parks Elementary used her Fuel Saver card, entered her name in a drawing, and Hy-Vee drew her name. She received $1,000 to donate to a school of her choice.

Harrisburg North Middle School students celebrated Spread the Word: Inclusion by making inclusion pledges and writing thank-you/kind notes to teachers and staff.
