School news you’ll love: Must-see videos, St. Patrick’s Day fun

Amazing things happen in our schools every day — if you know where to look! Do you know some school news others would love? Let us know at info@pigeon605.com.

Take a moment and enjoy the students of Whittier Middle School congratulating Dr. Ann Robertson, Native American Connections teacher, on becoming the 2021 Sioux Falls teacher of the year.

“There are good ships and wood ships, ships that sail the sea, but the best ships are friendships, may they always be!” Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools shared that Irish toast from the appropriately attired Msgr. James Doyle this St. Patrick’s Day.

Speaking of St. Pat’s Day, you won’t believe this — they sure couldn’t believe it — but kindergartners at Rosa Parks Elementary got a visit from leprechauns last week. One future investigator suggested checking the school’s cameras to see how they got in.

Have you seen these around town? Bishop O’Gorman families “knighted” one another’s yards as part of an annual fundraiser. Each “knighted” family makes a donation to get the signs removed from their lawns and moved to the next family’s.

Staff at Eugene Field Elementary had a breakfast celebration “because we have officially made it past March 13; the last day of traditional learning last school year,” they said. “We are grateful each day to be providing in-person learning to our students and are deeply appreciative for the supportive families, flexible and dedicated teachers and adaptive students that belong to the Eugene Field.”

And, finally, enjoy this powerful look back at the past year from the Sioux Falls School District.

“Over those months, and throughout the summer, our staff got to work to ensure school could happen, in person and virtually, for students in 2020-2021,” the district said. “Through it all: remote learning, distanced goodbyes, virtual graduations, outdoor graduations, creating a virtual academy from the ground up, implementing social distancing, erecting classroom barriers, installing new air filtration systems and cleaning nonstop, no one has done a better job, or multitude of jobs, during this trying time than the world-class staff of the Sioux Falls School District.”
