School news: Scenes of holiday season, McTeacher of the Month

Congratulations to Josh Thomas, a third grade teacher at Garfield Elementary School and winner of a McTeacher of the Month award from McDonald’s. He was nominated by a former student’s parent and receives $100 for his classroom plus free McDonald’s coffee for a year.

Some festive staff showed their holiday spirit at Patrick Henry Middle School.

And the staff at John Harris Elementary got into a themed dress day, coming to school as movie characters.

This fourth grade classroom at Discovery Elementary is ready for the season as students decorated their desks.

Lincoln High School’s activities director Joey Struwe brought home a big honor: the Bruce D. Whitehead Distinguished Service Award from the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association. The award is presented annually to NIAA members in recognition of their length of service, special accomplishments and contributions to interscholastic athletics at the local, state and national levels. Struwe has 25 years of experience in athletic administration, six of those years spent at Lincoln High School. During his time at LHS, he has started a captain’s council and secured funding for new video boards in the gymnasium.
