Start your day inspired when you learn from the woman who became the first Native American graduate of the USD Sanford School of Medicine and the first Native American physician in South Dakota.

Dr. Sophie Two Hawk will speak at the annual EmBe In Her Shoes Empowerment Breakfast at 7:30 a.m. March 6 at the Sioux Falls Convention Center.

The event is a celebration of EmBe women’s programming and a key fundraiser to support it.

“We’re so excited for our guests to hear from Dr. Two Hawk,” said Kerri Tietgen, CEO of EmBe.

“Her career journey exemplifies women’s empowerment, and her success shows what we believe is possible for every woman who connects with our programs.”

Two Hawk is a trailblazer who has spent her life defying odds and paving the way for others, including her own daughters. Dr. Arna Mora, Dr. Carol Whitman and Mashke Goicoechea, a pre-med student, will join her in a powerful panel discussion about resilience, leadership and the impact of strong role models — an inspiring testament to what it means to lead the way for the next generation.

All three of Two Hawk’s daughters are continuing the family’s legacy of service and breaking barriers for Native women in health care. Mora is dedicated to providing medical care and representation for underrepresented communities, Whitman is a psychiatrist who enjoys listening to and advocating for her patients, and Goicoechea is a rising leader pursuing a career in medicine.

“For over a century, EmBe has empowered women to pursue their personal and professional goals, whether at home, in the workplace or in their communities,” Tietgen said. “In Her Shoes is more than just an event — it’s a movement that encourages women to embrace leadership, redefine possibilities and embrace the responsibility to lift others along the way.”

This event is a call to action for all women to step into their power, embrace their own journeys and uplift those around them, she added.

“Bring your sister. Invite your co-workers. Get a table with your best friends — this is a morning you won’t want to miss. In addition to being a celebration of women,” Tietgen said.

In Her Shoes serves as a crucial fundraiser for EmBe women’s programming. Companies interested in sponsorships should contact Ravan Ackerman at EmBe at [email protected]. By attending and sponsoring, guests contribute to the ongoing efforts of EmBe to empower and advance women in all aspects of life.
