Construction season is here, so we’re giving you a weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.

What’s done

Eighth Street between Phillips and Weber avenues reopened to traffic Friday afternoon.

Part of the major Philips Avenue reconstruction is expected to finish up this week, with the intersection of Phillips and 18th Street plus the segment of Phillips between 18th and railroad tracks scheduled to open Wednesday.

This entire project involves new pavement, sanitary sewer, water main, street lights and accessible curb ramp upgrades.

What’s underway

As one segment of the Phillips Avenue project wraps up, the next one is starting. Phase two, which is 14th Street to the railroad tracks, is expected to start Wednesday and last until fall. Use Minnesota Avenue as a detour route.

Louise Avenue pavement repairs at 57th Street will continue for another couple of weeks — it turns out there is more repair work here than originally expected.

Louise pavement repairs between 34th and 41st streets are still on schedule to be completed in early July.

The Overlook Cafe at Falls Park is seeing improvements. Last week, crews began replacing the concrete retaining wall north of the cafe. There will be a new boulder retaining wall system, new ornamental railing and sidewalk improvements.

The work is expected to be done by Aug. 1. The park, cafe and parking lot will remain open at all times during construction. Users are urged to use caution near construction activity.

New this week

Another one of the season’s major projects starts this week. Work on Minnesota Avenue between 57th Street and St. Andrews Drive began today and will involve lane closures. Project completion is expected in November.

Northbound Marion Road was closed to traffic between 41st and 57th streets beginning today while the contractor performs asphalt milling and paving on the east side of the street. Southbound traffic will be maintained on Marion. Northbound traffic should use Holbrook Avenue as a detour route. Northbound traffic will be returned to Marion in one to two weeks.
