Road Report: Week of July 12

Construction season is here, so we’re giving you a weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.

What’s done

Several well-traveled roads are looking better. Construction is now done at:

• Louise Avenue north of 41st Street.
• 57th and Louise.
• 10th Street near Prairie Avenue.
•  11th Street near Summit Avenue.
• 49th and Solberg.

What’s underway

The city is underway with slurry seal work that will continue through early August.

A slurry seal is a protective seal coat that extends the life of a pavement.

Typically done on asphalt pavements in good condition, the seal provides a new wearing course and preserves the underlying pavement, preventing the need for more expensive repairs in the future. The slurry seal process is fast-moving and after application, streets are generally reopened in less than one day.

This year’s program is mostly focused on neighborhood streets, but major streets scheduled for slurry seal this year include Marion Road between Maple Street and 60th Street North, Marion Road between I-90 and Foundation Park, 60th Street North between Minnesota and Cliff avenues, and Phillips Avenue between 18th and 41st streets.

New this week

Cleveland Avenue will be closed between 19th and 22nd streets to allow crews to repair a damaged sewer line. Work should be done by the end of next week. Use 18th Street, Southeastern Avenue and 26th Street as a detour route.

Lane closures are in place at Sixth Street and Cleveland Avenue for sewer maintenance work. This work should be done by the end of next week.

A lane shift is in place on Rice Street at Bahnson Avenue to allow crews to connect to the water main under Rice for the city’s main pump station replacement project. This work should be done by the end of next week.
