December 13, 2021

Here’s a weekly look at what road construction projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.

What’s done

Just in time to beat the snow, Sioux Falls completed its third round of street sweeping for the second year in a row. That’s not common, but the cooperative weather allowed for more cleaning.

Check out the stats:

  • Curb miles swept: 8,141.
  • Loads hauled: 7,689.
  • Water used: More than 2.2 million gallons.

Cleanup from the winter storm also is done. It took about 35 hours to plow the entire city. The city had a few rookie operators and contractors, and more cars parked on the street than normal. Sioux Falls received up to 12 inches of snow in some areas.

What’s next

There’s still a little road work left to fit in this season.

Beginning today, the outside northbound lane of Minnesota Avenue will be closed between 16th and 17th streets. The sidewalk and parking lane also will be closed on the east side of the street in the same area. Assuming conditions cooperate, the work is expected to take a week.

Starting Wednesday,  the outside westbound lane of 26th Street will be closed between Veterans Parkway and Highline Avenue. The sidewalk on the north side of the street also will be closed.

Weather permitting, the work is expected to take three days.
