Road Report: Week of Aug. 9

Submitted

August 9, 2021

Construction season is here, so we’re giving you a weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.

What’s done

Work on Sycamore Avenue going northbound between 23rd and 26th streets is done, and the street will open fully to traffic today.

Work at 10th Street and Dakota Avenue also is done and will open today.

Work on 57th Street eastbound at the tunnel under I-29 also is done and fully open.

Benson Road between St. Paul and Potsdam avenues is compete and open to traffic.

Manhole work is done on Holbrook Avenue at Bluestem Street.

What’s underway

Big news on a big project: Phase one of the work at 33rd Street and Minnesota Avenue will wrap up this week, which means traffic will be switched to the newly paved lanes on the east side of Minnesota. At the same time, 33rd east of Minnesota will reopen.

Then, phase two work on the west side of the street will begin and last until late fall, which means 33rd west of Minnesota will be closed.

It’s also milestone time on Kiwanis Avenue, where work on the first half of phase two — 26th to 33rd streets — will wrap up this week, and traffic will be switched from the east side of the street to the west side.

Work is still expected to be complete in early September.

Several concrete repair projects on heavily traveled streets also are underway.

Concrete repair work is in progress on 26th Street between Western and West avenues. Work should be done in about one week.

Concrete repair work on southbound Cliff Avenue just north of 33rd Street began last week. Work should be done in about two weeks.

Concrete repair on Western Avenue at First Street began last week and should be done early this week.

What’s next

Manhole work on northbound Southeastern Avenue between 33rd and 49th streets has been delayed but will be happening sometime in the next week or so. Once work begins, it should be done in about one week.

Sewer repair work on northbound West Avenue just north of Sixth Street has been delayed for a couple of weeks.

Concrete repair work will begin on Minnesota Avenue north of Russell Street sometime this week. Work will occur at multiple locations and should be complete in about two weeks.
