Road Report: Week of Aug. 30, 2021

Construction season is here, so we’re giving you a weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.

What’s done

Concrete repair work on Minnesota Avenue north of Russell Street is complete, and all lanes are open to traffic.

What’s underway

Oxbow Avenue is closed at 49th Street to allow concrete paving to occur on 49th. Oxbow is expected to reopen next week. Traffic on 49th will be maintained.

Ralph Rogers Road is closed at Minnesota Avenue to allow crews to work on paving Minnesota. Ralph Rogers will be closed for a week or so.

57th Street, Veterans Parkway to Six Mile Road

57th Street will be expanded and paved over the next several years in this area and ultimately will have two lanes in each direction separated by a median, similar to the current street west of Veterans Parkway.

This year’s project includes rough grading, installation of water main, temporary drainage structures and gravel surfacing.

Construction next year will include electric pole relocation by East River Electric and installation of a sanitary sewer force main that will extend from the city’s sewer lift station near 57th Street and the Big Sioux River all the way to the water reclamation plant. Construction in 2023 will include permanent drainage structures and final grading and paving.

57th Street is closed to traffic in this area. This year’s project will be complete and reopen later this fall. Additional closures will be in place for future construction.

What’s next

The outside westbound lane of 26th Street will be closed between Deerberry Trail and Sertoma Avenue starting today. The lane closure location will change as the work progresses between Sertoma and Marion Road. Work is expected to be complete in late October.
