Construction season is here, so we’re back with our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.

What’s underway

Prairie Avenue: The traffic signal installation project on Prairie Avenue at 10th and 11th streets is making progress.

Crews poured the last of the colored concrete pavement on the north half of each intersection Friday. Traffic lane closures will be switched today to allow crews to begin work on the south half of each intersection.

Work on the south half of each intersection is expected to take three to four weeks.

The traffic signals will be installed in October after they arrive in Sioux Falls.

85th Street: Good progress is being made on the joint city of Sioux Falls/city of Tea project on 85th Street between Sundowner Avenue and Heritage Parkway/Ellis Road.

Underground utility work is complete in the intersection of 85th and Sundowner.

Paving will begin at this intersection this week.

Work is also in progress on a temporary detour at 85th and Heritage that will be used while a roundabout is constructed at this intersection next year.

The intersection of 85th and Sundowner will be complete and open to traffic later this fall.

The remainder of the project will be completed in 2025.

31st Street: 31st Street closed from Minnesota to Spring avenues Wednesday to allow crews to begin work on street and utility improvements along 31st. This closure includes the intersection of 31st and Spring. Work will include a new sanitary sewer manhole, miscellaneous drainage improvements, new curb and gutter, sidewalk and asphalt paving. All work is expected to be completed in mid-November.

What’s next

69th Street: Beginning today, the outside eastbound lane of 69th Street will be closed between Hemingstone Trail and Landau Circle to allow crews to perform sidewalk repairs. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.

57th Street: Beginning today, the outside westbound lane on 57th Street will be closed west of Southeastern Avenue to allow crews to work on a power pole. This work is expected to be complete in a few days.

26th Street: Beginning today, the outside eastbound lane on 26th Street will be closed just east of Marday Avenue to allow crews to work on an electric line. This work is expected to be complete by the end of the day.

18th Street: Beginning on Tuesday, 18th Street will be closed between Dakota and Center avenues to allow crews to replace rooftop units for an adjacent property. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
