Road Report: Sept. 26, 2022
Construction season is here, so we’re back with our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.
What’s underway
Cliff Avenue: Work on Cliff Avenue between 49th and 56th streets is nearing completion. Seeding, streetlight and striping work are in progress.

All lanes of Cliff Avenue are expected to be open to traffic by the end of this week or early the following week.

Sycamore Avenue: Work on Sycamore Avenue between 26th and 41st streets is making progress.

The contractor milled off the top 2 inches of the existing asphalt and has been working on making some pavement repairs over the past couple of weeks.

A new top layer of asphalt will be installed within the next week or so. After this asphalt work is complete, all lanes on Sycamore between 26th and 41st will reopen to traffic.

At the intersection of 41st and Sycamore, a concrete pour is scheduled today for the southeast corner of the intersection. It will be about three weeks or so before the southeast corner of the intersection is completed.

Then, work will shift to the southwest corner of the intersection. This project is expected to be substantially complete by mid- to late November.
Cliff Avenue: The outside northbound lane of Cliff Avenue closed in two separate locations last week between Second and Rice streets to allow crews to perform concrete pavement repairs. One lane of northbound traffic will be maintained at all times during construction. This work is expected to be complete by the end of this week.
River Boulevard: The inside westbound lane of River Boulevard closed on Thursday between 17th Street and Cliff Avenue to allow crews to perform concrete median repairs. Eastbound traffic will not be impacted by this work. The project is expected to be complete by the end of this week.
Cleveland Avenue: The outside northbound lane of Cleveland Avenue closed on Friday at Sixth Street to allow crews to perform storm drainage system work. This work is expected to be complete in about five to six weeks.
What’s next
Interstate 90: Beginning today, the inside westbound lane on Interstate 90 will be closed at the Interstate 29 interchange to allow crews to perform bridge deck repairs. This work is expected to be complete by early afternoon.
41st Street: Beginning today, eastbound traffic on 41st Street will be shifted to the north side of 41st between I-29 and Terry Avenue to allow crews to work on a retaining wall on the south side of the street. Traffic will continue to be reduced to one lane in each direction. This traffic configuration will remain in place until late October or early November.
Benson Road: Beginning today, the center three lanes of Benson Road will be closed between Cliff and Van Eps avenues to allow crews to perform concrete pavement repairs. One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained at all times. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
Marion Road: Beginning today, southbound traffic on Marion Road will be shifted to the center turn lane just south of 46th Street to allow MidAmerican Energy to perform some work in this area. This work is expected to be complete in a few days.
Madison Street: Beginning today, the outside eastbound lane on Madison Street will be closed just east of the Big Sioux River bridge to allow crews to perform utility work. This work is expected to be complete by the end of the day.
Cliff Avenue: Beginning Tuesday, northbound traffic on Cliff Avenue will be reduced to one lane just south of 26th Street to allow crews to install a new gas line. This work is expected to be complete by the end of the day Tuesday.
Russell Street: Starting Wednesday, the outside westbound lane on Russell Street will be closed between Prairie and West avenues to allow construction crews to install new water main. Two westbound lanes of traffic will be maintained. Eastbound traffic will not be impacted. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
