Road Report: Sept. 15, 2025
Construction season is here, so we’re back with our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.
What’s done
12th Street: Work on 12th Street between Ellis and Marion roads finished up Thursday. All lanes are now open to traffic!

What’s underway
22nd Street: The street closure on 22nd Street between Spring and Minnesota avenues is being extended one week. The road now is expected to reopen to traffic by the end of this week.
Maple Street: Maple Street closed just east of Veterans Parkway on Thursday to allow crews to install a sanitary sewer casing pipe. Motorists should use Madison Street as a detour route. This work is expected to be complete in about two weeks.
Cliff/Highway 115: Cliff Avenue, also known as South Dakota Highway 115, was reduced to a single lane of traffic in isolated locations between Dike Place in Sioux Falls and Dell Rapids on Friday to allow crews to perform pavement repairs. A portable signal system will control traffic through the work zone. This work is expected to be complete by early November.
41st Street: Access for the Sioux Falls Regional Landfill changed late last week As of Friday, 41st Street/County Highway 148 is open now between 466th Avenue and the landfill entrance.

However, 41st Street is closed now west of the landfill entrance to allow crews to continue work on the next phase of the project, which will create a westbound left turn lane into the landfill.
All landfill traffic must now access the landfill from the east. Through traffic on 41st should continue following the detour route along 463rd Avenue, 12th Street/South Dakota Highway 42 and 466th Avenue. All work on this project is expected to be complete at the end of October.

Arrowhead Parkway: Work on Arrowhead Parkway east of Veterans Parkway is making progress.

The pedestrian underpass under Arrowhead is complete, and work is in progress on the first half of two pedestrian underpasses under Veterans.

Storm drainage work and sanitary sewer work is underway along Veterans north and south of Arrowhead.

Gravel has been placed on the eastern portion of the project, and concrete paving is expected to begin in the next few weeks.

Arrowhead east of Veterans will reopen to one lane of traffic for the winter in late November.

All work on this project is expected to be substantially complete in late 2026, with some final cleanup work expected in the spring of 2027.
What’s next
Minnesota Avenue: Beginning at 9 a.m. today, the outside northbound lane of Minnesota Avenue will be closed at Interstate 229 to allow crews to perform grading work. One lane of northbound traffic will be maintained in the inside northbound lane. Southbound traffic will not be impacted. This work is expected to be complete by the end of the day.
41st Street: Beginning today, the inside eastbound lane, the eastbound left turn lane and the outside westbound lane of 41st Street will be closed between Grand Slam and Linedrive avenues to allow crews to perform work in the median. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
15th Street: Beginning today, 15th Street will be closed on the east side of Grange Avenue to allow crews to install a pedestrian traffic signal as part of the 15th Street Bicycle Boulevard project. Traffic on Grange will remain open in both directions at all times. This work is expected to be complete by the end of September.
15th & Prairie: Beginning on Tuesday, the intersection of 15th Street and Prairie Avenue will be closed to allow crews to construct a traffic circle as part of the 15th Street Bicycle Boulevard project. This work is expected to be complete in late November.
Rice Street: Beginning on Sept. 22, Rice Street will be closed between Cleveland Avenue and Veterans Parkway to allow crews to mill and overlay the roadway. Through traffic between Sioux Falls and Brandon should use the project detour route to 60th Street North via Veterans and Cliff Avenue. One lane of traffic will be maintained for access to local businesses. This work is expected to be complete in about three weeks.
