Construction season is here, so we’re back with our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.

What’s done

54th Street North: 54th Street North west of Fourth Avenue has reopened to traffic.

Fourth & Ash: Work at Fourth Avenue and Ash Street is complete.

What’s underway

41st Street: Temporary intersection closures on 41st Street west of I-29 will continue through the end of May to allow crews to install underground utilities and reconstruct the street surfacing. Temporary closures of Terry Avenue, Cathy Avenue and Gateway Boulevard at 41st Street will alternate; only one intersection will be closed at a time. Marion Road south of 41st will remain closed for several more weeks.  Gateway Boulevard will be closed today.

Cliff Avenue: Good news, Cliff Avenue commuters: The work on 26th Street at Cliff should be completed sometime this week.

57th Street: 57th Street is closed between Veterans Parkway and Six Mile Road to allow crews to install sanitary sewer. Work began last week, and is expected to be completed this fall.

Airport Industrial Park area: Lots of work is happening in the Airport Industrial Park north of Russell Street and west of Minnesota Avenue.

Water main improvements in various locations started this week.

Work is occurring in phase one on M Avenue and Cherokee Street. That work is expected to take about one month.

Sanitary sewer improvements are also in progress at the sanitary sewer pump station at the corner of Cherokee Street and C Avenue.  In a few weeks, a sanitary sewer force main lining project also will impact C Avenue and Blackhawk Street for several weeks.

Drivers should be aware of changing street closures and find alternate routes as necessary. This work is expected to be completed this fall.

Cliff Avenue: Work on Cliff Avenue between 49th and 56th streets is starting to ramp up. Tree and pavement removals are in progress on the east side of the street.

Temporary water main is being set up so water service can be maintained to homes and businesses when the water main replacement starts in the next week or two.

Cliff Avenue remains open to one lane of traffic in each direction for now but will fully close to all traffic May 31.

Traffic will be restored before school starts in mid-August, but the project won’t be completed until late fall.

What’s next

26th Street: Beginning today, the outside westbound lane on 26th Street will be closed just west of Marion Road to allow crews to remove and replace some driveway approaches and sidewalk. This work is expected to be completed in about two weeks.

57th Street: Beginning Tuesday, the outside westbound lane of 57th Street will be closed at the intersection of Glenview Road to allow crews to perform accessible curb ramp improvements. This work is expected to be completed in about one week.

60th Street North: Beginning on May 31, 60th Street North will be closed at I-229 to allow crews to replace the bridge over I-229. As part of this project, Sycamore Avenue also will be closed from Benson Road to 60th Street North. Crews will be cutting down the steep hill on Sycamore and using the dirt as fill material for the bridge improvements on 60th Street North. Sycamore will reopen this fall. 60th Street North won’t reopen until mid-2023.
