Construction season is here, so we’re back with our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.

What’s done

The work on Marion Road just south of 12th Street is complete.

What’s underway

41st Street: On 41st Street west of I-29, Gateway Boulevard, Terry Avenue and Cathy Avenue will be closed intermittently through the end of May. The closures will alternate so that only one intersection is closed at a time. Traffic control signs will direct drivers to the open intersections. Cathy Avenue will be closed today.

Tallgrass & 85th: The intersection of Tallgrass Avenue and 85th Street closed last week to allow construction crews to upgrade utilities. Motorists should use Louise Avenue, 69th Street and 85th Street as alternate routes. This work is anticipated to be completed within two weeks.

41st & Sycamore: Work on 41st and Sycamore is off to a good start.

Pavement removals are in progress in the first phase, and underground utility work will begin this week.

69th & Ralph Rogers: Work on a new traffic signal at 69th Street and Ralph Rogers Road is also off to a good start.

The signal bases and sidewalk work are in progress at the intersection.

This is part of a larger project to install new traffic signals at 69th and Ralph Rogers and 74th Street and Louise Avenue, close the median at the current Avera/Lewis entrance on Louise Avenue and add a northbound right turn lane at 74th and Louise.

49th & Western: On Friday, construction started at the 49th Street and Western Avenue. Traffic was reduced to one lane for northbound traffic. This work is expected to be completed in  six to eight weeks.

What’s next

Louise Avenue: Beginning today, the inside southbound, inside northbound and the northbound left turn lane will be closed on Louise Avenue south of 69th Street at the Avera/Lewis access to allow crews to remove the temporary delineators and install permanent concrete median curbing. This project will be completed later this summer.

14th Street: Beginning today, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction on 14th Street between Fourth and Fifth avenues at the railroad tracks to allow Ellis & Eastern to perform track repairs. This work should be completed in about one week.

Benson Road: According to the South Dakota Department of Transportation, beginning today, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction on Benson Road under Interstate 29 to begin pavement repairs. Then, on May 9, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction on 60th Street over I-29 to complete pavement repairs that were started last fall.

49th Street: Beginning Tuesday, the east leg of 49th Street will be closed at Sycamore Avenue to allow crews to perform concrete repairs. Motorists should use 42nd or 53rd streets as an alternate route. This work will be completed in about two weeks.

Sixth Street: Beginning on May 11, Sixth Street will be closed between Phillips and Weber avenues to allow the Cherapa Place development to install utilities. This work is expected to be completed in about two weeks.
