Road Report: May 15, 2023
Construction season is here, so we’re back with our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.
What’s Underway
Work began last week on a concrete pavement patching project on 22nd Street between Kiwanis Avenue and Minnesota Avenue. The city is using a product called Techcrete to patch the concrete in this area.

Techcrete is a flexible polymer modified hot-applied repair mastic sealant that is heated up and poured into place after the repair area is properly prepared.

This patching material helps extend the life of the pavement without doing more costly repairs or a full surface replacement. This project is expected to be complete by the end of June.
The first major concrete pour of the year took place on Tuesday last week on Arrowhead Parkway near Six Mile Road.

Six Mile Road is closed south of Arrowhead Parkway for another week or two, but is open north of Arrowhead Parkway.

All lanes of traffic are expected to be open by mid-August, and the project is expected to be fully complete by the end of September.
Work began on May 11 on concrete repairs at the intersection of Sixth Street and Cleveland Avenue.

The outside lanes on Sixth Street are closed from I-229 to Shepherd Avenue, and the outside lanes on Cleveland Avenue are closed north and south of Sixth Street for approximately 650 feet.

Over the next several months, work will continue east on 6th Street to Sycamore Avenue.

One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained at all times. This work is anticipated to be complete in October.
What’s Next
Beginning on May 15, the southbound onramp from 41st Street onto I-29 will be closed to allow crews to reconstruct and widen the ramp. Drivers should use 26th Street as an alternate access point to southbound I-29. This ramp will be closed for approximately two months.
Beginning on May 15, the outside southbound lane on Cliff Avenue will be closed between 49th Street and Tomar Road to allow crews to repair fence along the west side of Cliff Avenue. Southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane. This work is expected to be complete in about two weeks.
Beginning on May 15, the outside westbound lane on 10th Street will be closed at Sneve Avenue to allow crews to perform a concrete pavement repair. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
Beginning on May 15, Ebenezer Avenue will be closed near 9th Street to allow construction crews to perform railroad crossing improvements. Motorists should utilize 12th Street, 5th Street, Marion Road, and Lyon Boulevard as alternate routes. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
Beginning on May 15, the outside westbound lane closure on 41st Street will be extended from Grange Avenue to Lake Avenue to allow crews to make improvements to the ADA accessibility along the corridor, including accessible curb ramps and sidewalks with corresponding driveway restorations and concrete curb and gutter repairs. The outside westbound lane will continue to be closed from Norton Avenue to Grange Avenue. This project is expected to be complete in August.
Beginning on May 16, Westport Avenue will be closed between Sencore Drive and Cherry Hill Drive to allow crews to perform utility work for the Sanford Sports Complex. This work is expected to be complete by the end of the week.
Beginning on May 16, the sidewalk on the west side of Main Avenue will be closed between Ninth Street and Tenth Street. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
Beginning on May 17, the outside westbound lane on River Boulevard will be closed between Southeastern Avenue and Cliff Avenue to allow crews to perform sidewalk repairs. Traffic will be directed to the inside lane. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
Beginning on May 17, the outside westbound lane on 57th Street will be closed just west of Grinnell Avenue. This work is expected to be complete in one day.
