Construction season is here, so we’re back with our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.

What’s done

Ellis Road: The asphalt mill and overlay work on Ellis Road between 41st and 57th streets was completed late last week.

This much-needed improvement will provide a smoother ride for several years to come.

What’s underway

Benson Road & I-229: Grading work on the south side of Benson Road as part of the interchange project at Interstate 229 is in progress, with paving expected to begin in three to four weeks.

Curb and gutter installation has begun on Lewis Avenue south of Benson, and paving on Lewis is expected to begin sometime in the next two to three weeks.

Lewis Avenue will reopen south of Benson Road a week or two after paving is complete.

Storm drainage work near the interchange will begin soon.

The southbound on-ramp from Benson Road to I-229 will be closing in a few weeks and will remain closed for six to eight weeks. Work on this project is expected to be substantially completed in November, with final completion and conversion to the diverging diamond configuration occurring in the spring of 2025.

Sixth Street: Water main installation is complete east of the railroad tracks, while storm drainage construction, coordination with Xcel Energy and coordination with BNSF on the railroad crossing and signal work continue.

Streetscaping between the bridge and the railroad tracks is in progress as well.

The bike trail under the bridge is expected to reopen by the end of May. All work on this project is expected to be complete later this summer.

The outside northbound lane on Cliff Avenue closed between Third Street and the railroad tracks on May 7 to allow crews to work on the overhead electrical lines. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.

What’s next

10th Street: Beginning today, the outside eastbound lane of 10th Street will be closed from just west of Interstate 229 to Sycamore Avenue to allow crews to perform underground utility improvements, concrete repairs, accessible curb ramp improvements, pavement milling and asphalt overlay.

Blaine and Thompson avenues also will be closed on the south side of 10th Street as part of this work.

This phase of the work is expected to be complete in mid- to late July. The overall project is expected to be complete in September.

57th Street: Beginning today, the outside eastbound lane of 57th Street will be intermittently closed between Cliff Avenue and Glenview Road to allow crews to work on the Glenview Park trail near 57th Street.  The lane closure will be limited to the hours between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.

Klein Avenue: Beginning today, Klein Avenue will be closed between 41st and 42nd streets to allow crews to reconstruct the street. Motorists should use Ellis Road and 46th Street as an alternate route. This work is expected to be complete in August.

41st Street: Beginning today, the outside eastbound lane and the westbound left turn lane on 41st Street will be closed at Klein Avenue as part of the Klein reconstruction project. The work requiring a lane closure is expected to be complete in about three weeks.

Ellis Road: Beginning today, the outside northbound and southbound lanes of Ellis Road will be closed just north of 41st Street to allow crews to work on electrical lines. This work is expected to be complete by the end of the day.
