Construction season is here, so we’re back with our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.

What’s underway

41st Street: Work is progressing on the sidewalk improvement project along 41st Street between Western and Westport avenues.

Construction on the north side of 41st is complete.

Now, the contractor is working on the south side of 41st between Westport Avenue and Sheldon Lane.

Sidewalk removal also has started on the south side between Sheldon Lane and Western Avenue, and this work is expected to be completed within the next two weeks.

Similar work on the east side of Minnesota Avenue between 14th and 18th streets is scheduled to begin June 16. Message boards will be placed on-site starting today to notify the public. The Minnesota Avenue improvements are anticipated to be completed by mid-August.

85th Street: The contractor is making good progress on the 85th Street project between Sioux Falls and Tea.

Paving of the roundabout at 85th Street and Heritage Parkway/Ellis Road is complete, and the roundabout reopened to traffic Friday.

Asphalt paving also is finished on 85th between Heritage Parkway and Sundowner Avenue.

In the coming weeks, the contractor will focus on shoulder work and site restoration.

Construction began last year on this joint city of Sioux Falls/city of Tea project to improve 85th Street between Heritage Parkway/Ellis Road and Sundowner Avenue.

The intersection at 85th and Sundowner was completed last year. All remaining work is expected to be completed this summer.

Cliff Avenue: The northbound lanes of Cliff Avenue closed June 6 between the Big Sioux River bridge and Tomar Road to allow crews to perform concrete joint repairs, partial depth concrete repairs and curb and gutter repairs. One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained in the newly repaired southbound lanes. In the upcoming weeks, the location of the lane closures on Cliff will vary between the bridge and Tomar. At a minimum, one lane of traffic in each direction will remain open at all times. Access to businesses, parks and homes will be maintained. Access to side streets will be maintained if possible.  This work is anticipated to be complete by mid-August.

85th Street: The eastbound and westbound outside lanes of 85th Street closed June 4 between Minnesota and Audie avenues to allow crews to perform sidewalk repairs. The outside southbound lane of Minnesota will be closed between 85th and just before the Walmart entrance for the same work. In addition, the southbound parking lane on Minnesota will be closed between 77th and 81st streets to allow crews to perform sidewalk repairs. Weather permitting, this work is anticipated to be completed within one week.
