Construction season is here, so we’re back with our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.

What’s underway

Cliff Avenue: Crews are working on installing an asphalt overlay on Cliff Avenue between 11th and 26th streets.

The outside lanes have been paved, and crews are prepping the existing concrete surface on the inside lanes before installing the asphalt overlay there.

The city is using a different type of asphalt on this project that should be more resistant to cracking and last longer before needing to be replaced.

One note from the city: Though this type of asphalt is supposed to be more crack-resistant, it won’t be crack-free. 😊 All work on this project is expected to be complete in late July.

60th Street North: Work is nearing completion on 60th Street North at Interstate 229.

Asphalt paving is in progress, and the roadway, including the bridge over I-229, is expected to reopen to traffic in early July.

Sixth Street: Work continues on Sixth Street between I-229 and Sycamore Avenue.

Crews are busy prepping the west half of the project for an asphalt overlay, which will take place in early July.

Crews also are working on full depth and partial depth concrete repairs on the east half of the project.  All work on this project is expected to be complete in late October.

What’s next

Bike trail: Beginning today, portions of the bike trail will be closed intermittently to allow crews to apply a seal coat. The contractor will start in zone 1.

Flaggers will be on the main trail at the beginning and end of the work zones to stop trail users from entering the work area. The work will be a moving operation, and the trail will reopen as soon as the surface is ready. Once zone 1 is complete, work will move to zone 2 and then zone 3. All work is expected to be complete in about two weeks.

26th Street: Beginning today, the eastbound lane on 26th Street will be closed at Menlo Avenue to allow crews to replace the concrete valley gutter. Residents can access Menlo from 27th Street. Eastbound traffic will be maintained in the center turn lane. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.

41st Street: Beginning today, the outside eastbound lane closure on 41st Street will be extended from Covell to Minnesota avenues to allow crews to make improvements to the ADA accessibility along this segment of 41st. This work includes accessible curb ramp and sidewalk repairs with corresponding driveway restorations and concrete curb and gutter repairs. This is the last phase of a project to make ADA accessibility improvements along 41st between Western and Minnesota avenues. All work is anticipated to be completed by mid- to late July.

Solberg Avenue: Beginning today, the outside northbound lane on Solberg Avenue will be closed between 58th and 59th streets to allow crews to perform sidewalk repairs. This work is expected to be complete in about one month.

Holbrook Avenue: Beginning today, Holbrook Avenue will be closed between 41st and 43rd streets to allow crews to perform road maintenance work. This work is expected to be complete in about two days.

49th Street: Beginning today, 49th Street will be closed between Marion Road and Essex Drive to allow crews to perform road maintenance work.  This work is expected to be complete in about two days.

33rd & Western: Beginning Tuesday, the intersection of 33rd Street and Western Avenue will be closed to allow crews to perform repairs to the sanitary sewer and storm drainage system in the intersection. Motorists are encouraged to use 26th Street and Kiwanis Avenue as alternate routes. This work is expected to be complete by the end of the week.
