Road Report: July 8, 2024
Construction season is here, so we’re back with our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.
What’s underway
10th Street: Work on 10th Street between Interstate 229 and Sycamore Avenue continues to make progress.

Concrete work and accessible curb ramp improvements are nearing completion on the south side of 10th Street.

Asphalt paving is expected to begin in the next few weeks.

Concrete work on the newly reconstructed cul-de-sac on Blaine Avenue is complete, and paving work will begin soon.

The current phase of work in the outside eastbound lane is expected to be complete by the end of July.

Then, work will switch to the outside westbound lane, then finally the middle lanes. All work is expected to be complete in September.
South Veterans Parkway: Work on the South Veterans Parkway project also continues to make progress.

Construction of the bridge over 85th Street just east of Minnesota Avenue is nearly complete. Concrete paving is underway on Veterans between Minnesota and Western avenues.

The underground utility work at the roundabout at 95th Street and Western Avenue is complete, and crews are working on grading and surfacing.

The roundabout will be open before school starts this fall, but Western Avenue between 95th Street and Highway 106 will remain closed until November.

Traffic on Minnesota Avenue south of 85th Street remains reduced to one lane in each direction.

All work on this project is expected to be complete in November.

What’s next
The following work will begin today:
- The inside shoulders of both the northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 229 will be closed to allow crews to begin construction of median crossovers and lane widening on I-229 near Exit 4, which is Cliff Avenue. As construction progresses, there will be additional lane and ramp closures. This project also will include construction of a temporary bridge over Cliff Avenue in preparation for an interchange reconstruction in 2025. This year’s work is expected to be complete in December.
- The northbound right turn lane on Ellis Road will be closed just north of 41st Street to allow crews to replace concrete panels. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
- The outside eastbound lane on 69th Street will be closed just east of Cliff Avenue to allow crews to work on underground utilities. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
- The outside northbound lane on Sycamore Avenue will be closed just north of 15th Street to allow crews to work on a retaining wall. This work is expected to be complete in about two weeks.
Beginning Wednesday, 18th Street will be closed between Tabbert Circle and Grandview Avenue to allow crews to perform sanitary sewer repairs. Additional short-term lane restrictions between Interstate 229 and Sycamore Avenue also will be in place as the work progresses. This work is expected to be complete in about two weeks.
