Construction season is here, so we’re back with our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.

What’s underway

Tallgrass & 85th: The contractor is working on the intersection of Tallgrass Avenue and 85th Street.

Underdrains, geotextile fabric and gravel have been completed, and paving has started on the eastbound lanes in the intersection.

Once that is complete, they will switch to the other side to pour the westbound lanes.

The intersection is expected to reopen to traffic by mid-June.

They also are installing underdrain system north of the intersection along Tallgrass.

Once they are done with this, they will start working on the subgrade. The north segment is expected to be complete later this fall.

Here’s a bird’s-eye view of the progress.

Veterans Parkway: A significant amount of work is underway on Veterans Parkway between Cliff and Western avenues.

The contractor has completed the bridge deck over 85th Street just east of Minnesota Avenue and is focused on constructing the wing walls in preparation for mainline paving to tie into the bridge deck.

At Western Avenue, the contractor is engaged in storm sewer installation and grading, with box culvert work commencing in mid-May.

Near Minnesota Avenue, the initial large-scale paving operation has begun 1,000 feet west of the intersection, progressing toward Minnesota Avenue.

Looking ahead, there will be additional paving scheduled in the coming weeks. Completion of the project is anticipated in November.

41st & I-29: Traffic on the 41st Street diverging diamond interchange construction project shifted Wednesday to one lane in each direction on the north side of the 41st Street bridge. This traffic switch is part of the conversion of the intersection into its final configuration. Crews will continue to work on the north islands and prepare for the next phase of construction. This project is expected to be complete in June.

What’s next

Ellis Road: Beginning today, Ellis Road from 41st to 57th streets will be closed to allow the city of Sioux Falls Street Division to perform road maintenance work. Weather permitting, this work is anticipated to be completed by 5 p.m. Thursday.

Linedrive Avenue: Beginning today, Linedrive Avenue will be closed south of 41st Street to allow the contractor to work on new utilities. The work is anticipated to be completed in approximately one week.

10th Street: Beginning today, 10th Street from Main to Dakota avenues will be under construction with temporary lane closures to allow the Sioux Falls Street Division to perform road maintenance work. Weather permitting, this work is anticipated to be completed by 5 p.m. Thursday.

Cliff Avenue: Beginning Tuesday, the outside southbound traffic lane on Cliff Avenue will be closed between Sixth and Ninth streets. The west leg of the intersection will be closed to the eastbound traffic on Eighth Street and will be detoured around the closure at Fairfax Avenue. Xcel Energy will be working on overhead lines. This work is anticipated to be completed in approximately one week.

10th Street: Beginning Tuesday, the sidewalk along the north side of 10th Street will be closed between Main and Dakota avenues. Northern Plains Construction will be working on installing new windows in a building. The work is anticipated to be completed in approximately three weeks.
