Road Report: April 28, 2025
Construction season is here, so we’re back with our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.
What’s underway
Pump Station 240: Work continues on the Pump Station 240 north capacity improvement project, with pipe being staged along North Veterans Parkway.

This project involves the installation of approximately 3.75 miles of 30-inch sanitary sewer force main. The force main will begin near Veterans and Sixth Street, run north along Veterans to Rice Street and terminate at he city of Sioux Falls water reclamation facility.

Additional work will include the removal and repaving of the shared-use path/bike trail along the east side of Veterans. The project is scheduled for completion later this fall.

South Veterans Parkway: Progress continues on the next phase of the South Veterans Parkway project, which is the segment between Cliff and Sycamore avenues.

Construction activity is increasing as the contractor continues to haul borrow material from the ponds along Cliff Avenue to dry and build the grade between Cliff Avenue and the BNSF Railway crossing.

Additional crews will begin hauling borrow material from the ponds along 69th Street between Sycamore and Southeastern avenues. To accommodate this work, Sycamore closed late last week from 69th to 85th streets. A signed detour directs traffic to Cliff Avenue and Highway 11. Sycamore will remain closed until project completion, which is expected in late 2026.

Aggregate pier installation for Abutment 1 has been completed, and crews have started construction on Abutment 2, which will support the future bridge over the BNSF Railway.

Southeastern Avenue is now closed as crews install a new water main. For the latest updates on traffic impacts and detours, please visit southveteransparkway.com.
69th Street: The outside westbound lane of 69th Street closed last week between Ralph Rodgers Road and Hemingstone Trail to allow crews to perform sidewalk repairs. Weather permitting, this work is anticipated to be completed sometime this week.
What’s next
41st Street: Beginning today, 41st Street will be closed between Broek and Lana drives to allow a contractor to install water, storm and sanitary sewer crossings. A temporary detour will be established using Ellis Road, 12th Street and 466th Avenue. This work is expected to be completed by the end of the day on May 9.
Cliff Avenue: The outside northbound lane on Cliff Avenue will be closed at 57th Street. The westbound right turn lane of 57th also will be closed at Cliff. The contractor will be replacing the sidewalk at the northeast corner of the intersection. This work is expected to be completed within one week.
Western Avenue: Beginning today, the northbound lane of Western Avenue will be shifted into the center lane between Grand Arbor Court and Laquinta Street to allow crews to perform sidewalk repairs. Once that work is completed, the southbound lane of Western will be shifted into the center lane between Black Rock Circle and Bitterroot Street to allow crews to perform sidewalk repairs. Weather permitting, this work is anticipated to be completed within three days.
Mystic Drive: Beginning at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Mystic Drive will be closed between Pine Lake Drive and Six Mile Road. Tull Cos. will be performing crane operations. This work is anticipated to be completed by noon Tuesday.
