Camping just got a little more comfortable at Newton Hills State Park near Canton.

The park recently announced a new lodging option – an ADA-compliant cabin that will sleep 12. It’s the latest addition to the popular park, which has long had tent and rustic cabin sites.

Now, on land the park acquired from the Boy Scouts of America, there is a rental lodge they’ve been renovating to prepare for a July 22 opening date. You can rent at 605-987-2263 or email [email protected].

“The Scout Lodge is going to be a beautiful addition to our camp,” said Caleb Wynia, park manager.

“It makes an interesting combination between our horse camp and our lodging reservations, as it will feature some horse corrals and a connection to our Blue Diamond Trail System.”

The lodge has four bedrooms and three bathrooms. It will go for $280 per night with a two-night minimum.

A lodging addition from last year continues to be popular, Wynia said. The two-bedroom modern house sleeps eight.

“It fits as a nice intermediate size between the group lodge and our camping cabins.”
