The city of Sioux Falls is moving forward with plans for a new park in northeast Sioux Falls — and asking neighbors for feedback this week.

A public meeting for Wild Meadows Park will begin at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Oakview Library, 3700 E. Third St. City staff will share initial concepts and ask for input from those who live in the area.

The 4-acre park is planned at 5200 E. Brennan Drive.

“Community input is essential to creating a park that reflects the needs and priorities of the neighborhood,” said Mike Patten, park development manager for the city. “We encourage residents to attend, share ideas and help shape the future of their park.”

The area around the park includes longtime residents as well as many young families and has an increasing need for outdoor recreation space and community gathering areas, according to the city.

The Parks & Recreation Department surveyed the neighborhood last year. Residents requested amenities in the park such as a playground, walking loop and integrated shade. Other top responses included interest in native plants, water features, comfortable seating and “nature-focused” relaxation spots.

The final design is expected to be done this fall, with construction planned next year.
