What’s home unless you make it your own? My 605 takes you inside the lives, loves and little secrets of those who call South Dakota – area code 605 – home.

This week’s My 605 is Loghin Welch, co-owner of Serendipitous Events and owner of pigeon Elton.

My home in the 605 is: I was born and raised on the outskirts of Sioux Falls on an acreage – that I miss everyday! I moved to Minnesota for college and soon realized that the 605 had my heart. I quickly moved back to Sioux Falls the day I graduated, and I am so thankful I did!

The biggest reason I live in the 605 is: Honestly, my list is long. First, I love living so close to my parents and family. Having a large support system close to you, especially as a business owner, is something that cannot be measured. The community that we are blessed with in the 605 and DTSF is also another reason that I am beyond thankful to live here. People want others to succeed and be successful as well. And of course, the ability to purchase an affordable home at a young age was a blessing.

After home, I spend the most time here: Downtown Sioux Falls! You are likely to see me in the “Uptown” area of DTSF running between The Cascade and Tri-State Creamery building where my offices are located or on Phillips Avenue meeting friends or clients for a cocktail or meal.

When I need to get away, you’ll find me: Somewhere warm or on the Missouri River. In the summer, I am a river gal. I frequent our family cabin near Platte, South Dakota, where I boat, fish, relax and spend time with friends and family. In the winter, I am more than likely somewhere warm with my girlfriends or family.

The best meal I ever ate in the 605 was at: Harvester Kitchen! I think about the halibut almost daily – SO tasty.

My go-to coffee shop is: Coffea! I love … their locations, and the vibe is always so welcoming and relaxing. A great place for meetings or focusing on work for a bit.

My favorite place to grab an adult beverage in the 605 is: I love a tasty Counterfeiter from The Treasury or a fun dive bar. My personal favorite dive bars are Chasers in Sioux Falls and Boogs Bar in Parkston, South Dakota!

When I need to experience the great outdoors, you’ll find me: Enjoying the Missouri River, outside exploring with my dogs, tailgating and hunting/fishing. My family loves to hunt, fish and explore the open fields that South Dakota provides us. Also, I am a big football fan, so tailgating counts as the great outdoors, right?!

The spot I’d recommend for a date is: The Source for a local beer or coffee, Harvester Kitchen for dining and/or a walk through Good Earth State Park with the dogs.

The best pizza in the 605 is: This one is hard. I would have to go with Papa Woody’s. I love having them as an option in Uptown DTSF!

When my friends and I get together, you’ll probably find us: Downtown shopping and having dinner or grilling out at one of our homes. I love to throw a good dinner party that we can all attend and enjoy together. This makes it so fun to dress up and indulge! We also love live music. Whether that is a country concert at the Denny or outdoors downtown or the Levitt at the Falls.

The place you never can go wrong taking kids is: I don’t have children yet, but I always loved taking my nanny kids to the Washington Pavilion and Outdoor Campus.

When I want to meet new people in the 605 I go: To work! As cliche as it sounds, I get to meet new people every day – whether that is a new client or someone who stops in asking for directions or recommendations. I appreciate that Sioux Falls still has a small-town community vibe, which makes it fun to connect with new people.

My best memory in the 605 is: Realizing I found my dream job at Serendipitous Events after I completed my internship, which then led to many years of event planning and now being a co-owner. I love my job and so thankful I found that in the 605.

The one thing I’m least crazy about in the 605 is: I think this one is pretty obvious with our current temps. Any day that falls below 30 degrees!

And finally, life in pictures. Here are the top three photos that most sum up My 605:
