The cost of clothing isn’t going down – unless you’re shopping an upcoming sale that allows you to save and support a valuable mission.

EmBe’s Spring Refresh Your Closet Sale will be offering more affordable prices than ever when it opens for shoppers Friday and Saturday, May 16-17. You’ll find it at EmBe’s downtown location, 300 W. 11th St., in the gym.

“We’ve changed our prices and made some other adjustments to the event we think shoppers are going to appreciate,” said Kara Bultena, women’s program coordinator.

This sale is a one-of-a-kind event in the Sioux Falls area, offering you the chance not only to refresh your wardrobe and save but also support other women at the same time.

Here are five reasons to consider stopping by.

The prices, of course

When we said you can find an affordable outfit, we weren’t kidding.

Prices on apparel have been reduced from previous sales, meaning most items are $10 or less.

“You can get a brand-new outfit for less than $20,” Bultena said. “Tops are $5, pants are $5, shoes are $5, dresses are $10, so you can see how $20 will go a long way here.”

Here’s the complete price list:

  • Tops/light jackets/vests/shirts: $5
  • Dresses: $8
  • Pants/skirts/shorts/shoes: $5
  • Jeans: $8
  • Athletic pants/ athletic tops: $5
  • Belts/camis/jewelry/scarves: $3
  • Purses: $10
  • Suits (set)/ coats: $10
  • Specialty items: $25

Take a look at some outfit inspiration that show what awaits:

It’s not just workwear

Many of the items sold at the Refresh Your Closet Sale were donated to EmBe’s Dress for Success program – but that doesn’t mean it’s all on the formal side.

“We receive items that are super-casual, so you’ll find jeans and T-shirts from well-known brands all the way up to professional items and nicer dresses, plus everything in between,” Bultena said.

“Clothing is for any career field or industry. Some people need jeans and a few nice tops, or they might need a two-piece business suit set, so you’ll find all kinds of options. The only exceptions are maternity wear, scrubs and undergarments, which won’t be at the sale.”

Hours will be adjusted

Doors open to the public from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, offering a full day of shopping to end the workweek.

Then on Saturday, stop by from 9 a.m. to noon for the popular “bag sale.” For $35, you’ll be given a large plastic bag and can take home anything that fits into it. Bring some friends, and enjoy Saturday morning downtown while you shop.

“We have quite a few regulars coming in with each sale,” Bultena said. “I think it helps a lot that they’re building community when they come check it out, plus they always walk away with a few items.”

It supports a great mission

As you refresh your wardrobe at the sale, you’re also helping other women build the skills they need to grow their careers. All money raised supports EmBe women’s programming, including Dress for Success, which offers career coaching and interview training, along with a free style session for women to take home an interview outfit and a week’s worth of clothes to start a new job.

EmBe also offers group programs for women, covering topics ranging from work-life balance to workplace etiquette and financial literacy.

“We’re giving them critical information to build a strong foundation, professionally and personally, so that they can succeed in our community,” Bultena said.

You can volunteer and shop early

EmBe has multiple opportunities for volunteers to help at the sale, especially on Saturday shifts from 8:45 to 11:30 a.m., 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Bonus: If you sign up to volunteer, you’ll receive a VIP invite to the preview shopping event Thursday, open to EmBe’s clients, referral partners and volunteers.

How to donate

Monday was the last day for donations for the upcoming sale, but they’re always needed to support Dress for Success and future sales. Donations are accepted Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will resume May 19.

“We have a special need for items size 16 and up as we’re seeing a lot of individuals size 16-18,” Bultena said. “We’re also always looking for things like nonslip work shoes and tennis shoes in any sizes.”
