‘Cover band like no other’ will play for this party in a parking lot

The band was such a huge hit, it’s coming back for another party.

Junk FM will play June 17 for a “party in the parking lot” of McNally’s Irish Pub at 69th Street and Western Avenue.

“Junk FM is a cover band like no other out of Minneapolis and was a huge hit at our Extravaganza, an annual fundraiser to support all eight of our Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools with staff salaries and tuition assistance in 2019,” said Susanne Gale, director of development for Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools.

Never heard of Junk FM? Think high-energy mashups from a group that just wants to see how crazy and fun the dance floor can get throughout the night – playing everything from Garth Brooks to Lady Gaga.

The plan was to have the band play at the same Extravaganza event in 2020, and it went virtual. Then, the hope was to bring them in 2021 to that event. Also virtual.

“But Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools has a very strong community, and we love to get together, so what better way to bring us all back together than to have a Party in the Parking Lot!” Gale said.

“We partnered with Nicki Ellerbroek, a 1998 grad and owner of McNally’s Irish Pub, to have the band play in her parking lot.”

While it’s a fundraiser for the schools, everyone is welcome. There’s no limit to the number of tickets being sold, and they’re $25 plus fees. A portion will be used to support all eight schools. Tickets can be purchased the day of the event, but the organizers appreciate advance purchasing so they can plan better.

It is an event for those 21 and older, and no coolers are allowed. It starts at 6 p.m., and Junk FM will play from 6:30 to 10 p.m.

The Jekyll & Hyde BBQ food truck will be on-site from 6 to 8 p.m., and drinks will be provided by McNally’s Irish Pub.

“It was really hard to have so many of our events and school concerts virtual this past year. We really missed getting together,” Gale said. “We are excited to offer an outdoor event for everyone to enjoy an evening of fun and fundraising!”
