Sioux Falls opens branch sites, issues storm cleanup reminders

As Sioux Falls residents clean up from weekend storms, the city has opened branch drop sites and issued reminders about debris removal.

The branch drop locations will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., through Aug. 9.

The drop sites are located at Chambers Street, near the city’s Household Hazardous Waste Facility, 1015 E. Chambers St., and Lyon Boulevard, 200 Lyon Boulevard, south of the W. H. Lyon Fairgrounds near West 12th Street. The sites are free for residential use. Commercial businesses and contractors can take branches and trees to the Sioux Falls Regional Landfill. Only trees and branches will be accepted at the drop sites. Mueller Pallets also will open outside its normal operating hours to support storm cleanup on July 26, and Aug. 2, from 12 to 5 p.m. Mueller Pallets accepts trees, branches and other clean wood debris, and is located a half mile west of the Sioux Falls Regional Landfill at 46349 267th St., Hartford, S.D. Normal operating hours are Mondays, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays, 7 a.m. to 12 noon. For questions, call 605-368-2440.

The city’s forestry team is clearing fallen trees and branches in the public right-of-way, which includes streets, sidewalks and boulevards (the area between the street and sidewalk). Following severe weather, trees or limbs that fall from or land within the public right-of-way are the city’s responsibility to clear. Property owners are encouraged to report these issues to the city so the forestry team can generate a work order and send a crew to remove the hazards. Reports can be made online at siouxfalls.gov/report or on the city’s mobile app.

Homeowners and property owners are responsible for the removal and disposal of trees and limbs that fall on private property. The city is not responsible for picking up trees or limbs that fall on private property and are piled in the driveway or public right-of-way by property owners. Residents are encouraged to use the city’s free branch drop sites for disposal.
