May 14: Yappy Hour
The yapping will begin at 3 p.m. Thursday at Big Sioux Diner & Dive in The Steel District, 150 E. Fourth Place, Suite 120. Yappy Hour will run until 7 p.m., and you and your four-legged bestie can enjoy pup cups, local vendors, free samples and a drink special.

May 16: Shakeout Run
Be at 605 Running Co.’s downtown location at 225 E. 11th St. for the Skedaddle Shakeout Run presented with Altra as a partner. It’s an easy-paced community shakeout run to start off the Sioux Falls Skedaddle Half Marathon weekend. Free doughnuts will be served, and coffee, water and Gatorade will be available. Altra will bring demo shoes for participants to try. No registration is required. The half-marathon itself will start at 7 a.m. Sunday. You can register for that here.

May 16: Fish-a-Thon
Celebrate National Kids to Parks Day with a Fish-a-Thon at Family Park, 300 N. Minnehaha County Road 139. Those 15 and younger can win prizes for the largest fish, smallest fish and most fish caught. Other family activities will include an archery setup, a Design-a-Park station and other hands-on outdoor fun. Fishing poles and bait will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants 16 and older must have a valid South Dakota fishing license. Registration is not required. It takes place from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday.

May 16: Hot rods and hounds
From 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, you can attend the Sioux Falls Car & Vendor Showcase at Builder’s Millwork & Window, 3101 E. 10th St. The event will feature food trucks and local vendors, automotive businesses and services, rescue dogs available for adoption, family-friendly music and the chance to vote for the people’s choice car.

May 16: Tattoo event
Encompass Mental Health, 1110 E. 77th St., is hosting the third Ink for Tomorrows, offering a chance to get a flash tattoo, meet talented artists and spend time meeting others passionate about mental health care. Proceeds from the event will support individuals in the community who cannot afford mental health services. It will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday with food trucks on-site from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can get your ticket here.

May 16: Dancefestopia
Dancefestopia: Yellow Brick Road Tour is searching for emerging and untapped DJ talent. The winners at each tour stop will be given the chance to showcase their talent at Dancefestopia 2026, a weeklong music and camping festival near Kansas City. The Sioux Falls competition, which starts at 8 p.m. Saturday at Club David, 214 W. 10th St., is a DJ battle-style event. The winner is chosen by a crowd vote. You can purchase your tickets here.
