Road Report: Nov. 24, 2025
This is our last Road Report of the season! We’ll be back when the weather allows in the spring.
What’s done
I-229 & Cliff: The northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 229 fully reopened to traffic at the Cliff Avenue interchange on Nov. 19. The southbound on-ramp and off-ramp at Cliff will remain closed until crews are able to bring power to the temporary traffic signal at the southbound off-ramp, which is expected to be in late November.

All lanes are expected to reopen on Cliff before Thanksgiving. The permanent traffic signals at 38th and 41st streets will be installed as soon as they are delivered to the site sometime in December.

Work on the south half of the interchange will begin again as soon as the weather allows in the spring of 2026. All work is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, with some cleanup and restoration work wrapped up in the spring of 2027.
North Drive: North Drive reopened to traffic between Main and Fourth avenues on Nov. 20.

North Drive was closed near the South Dakota State Penitentiary to allow crews to perform maintenance work on the bridges over the railroad tracks and the diversion channel.

Arrowhead Parkway: Arrowhead Parkway reopened east of Veterans Parkway on Nov. 21. During the winter, Arrowhead will be open to one lane of traffic in each direction east of Veterans.

Work will begin again as soon as the weather allows in the spring of 2026 with a five-to-six-week closure of Arrowhead east of Veterans so the pavement on the east half of the intersection can be completed. After that stretch reopens, Arrowhead west of Veterans to Highline Avenue will close for the duration of the 2026 construction season. All lanes are expected to be complete and open to traffic by the end of 2026, with some cleanup and restoration work completed in the spring of 2027.
72nd Street North: 72nd Street North reopened between Seubert Avenue and Minnehaha County Highway 125/476th Avenue on Nov. 21. 72nd Street North was closed to allow crews to install a watermain to serve a new subdivision being constructed east of the highway.

What’s underway
12th Street: The outside westbound lane of 12th Street closed at Marion Road on Nov. 19 to allow crews to perform sidewalk and accessible curb ramp repairs. After the work in the westbound lane is complete, the outside eastbound lane will be closed to allow crews to perform work on the south side of the street. This work is expected to be complete before Thanksgiving.
What’s next
14th Street: Beginning today, the outside westbound lane of 14th Street will be closed between Cliff and Seventh avenues to allow crews to perform utility work. The north sidewalk also will be closed, and pedestrian traffic will be detoured to the south sidewalk. This work is expected to be complete in about two weeks.
