Downtown Jack Rose Social Club wraps up construction on custom space

A new and unique addition to The Steel District’s food and beverage scene opens today.
Lloyd Construction served as general contractor on Jack Rose Social Club, an almost 6,400-square foot space, including two patios.

“Everything in there is custom,” project manager Austin Smit said. “There’s hardly any drywall on the walls. There’s all sorts of different finishes. So it’s unique in that way, and it ties into the other restaurants at The Steel District with distinctive and higher-end finishes.”
Steel itself served as inspiration for much of the design, with “a lot of steel cabinetry and casework,” Smit said. “The bar structure is a total steel structure that’s hung from above and was custom built. There’s nothing in here you can go buy off the shelf.”

The space contains many unique features and finishes that make it one-of-a-kind, yet the atmosphere blends nicely with the other Steel District restaurants.
“And there are industrial beams that wrap around,” Smit continued. “We have whiskey barrels hanging from the ceiling. So it was fun to make it all work.”
The two patios include firepits, plus the interior bar has an expansive pass-through window that connects guests to the buzz of the outdoor bar scene.

“The design includes outdoor-facing countertops that create a seamless bar experience inside and out,” Smit said. “It’s a standout project for the area, distinguished by its elevated finishes and design details.”

The restaurant, which includes multiple casino spaces, was a considerable investment.
“It’s a good, different vibe with a lot of aesthetics,” said Vinnie Olson, regional manager for owner Commonwealth Group. “We hope we’re viewed as the local guys down here at The Steel District. It’s more of a bar than a restaurant, but it’s still a very nice menu, and I think we’ll have variety that separates us from a lot of things down here.”

Lloyd Construction “has done a wonderful job” on the build-out, he said. “They’ve got the experience with The Steel District, and it’s gone very well. Once we started hitting the dirt, it went quickly.”
Lloyd Construction also completed build-outs for the building’s other two retail tenants: Alcove and Pasque Boutique.
Throughout the build-outs, the construction team managed the site with the understanding that people also live and work nearby.
“We gated off work areas and adjusted working hours for noise when residents likely would be sleeping,” Smit said. “It definitely can be a challenge working in a downtown area and in a mixed-use building, but we communicated closely with the property manager and managed through it so it worked for everyone.”
