Majestic musical ‘Anastasia’ offers memorable family theater experience
This paid piece is sponsored by Washington Pavilion Management Inc.
From the twilight of the Russian Empire to the euphoria of 1920s Paris, the hit Broadway musical “Anastasia” will transport and enthrall you when it arrives at the Washington Pavilion this month.

The dazzling show tells the story of a brave young woman who sets out to discover the mystery of her past.
Pursued by a ruthless Soviet officer determined to silence her, Anya enlists the aid of a dashing conman and a lovable ex-aristocrat. Together, they embark on an epic adventure to help her find home, love and family.
“The set and costumes for this show are simply stunning. You will be transported back in time to the streets of Paris while getting a glimpse into the workings of the Russian Empire,” said Regina Ruhberg, director of performances and events for Washington Pavilion Management Inc.
“It’s a great introductory production for the entire family; the costumes will keep you mesmerized, and the story will have you searching for love and family. School is out, and life is slowing down a little for all of us, so it’s time to enjoy live theater.”

“Anastasia” will offer three shows: June 17 and 18 at 7:30 p.m. with a 2 p.m. matinee June 18.
“People should absolutely plan ahead and get their tickets sooner than later. This title is very well known, and tickets are selling very quickly,” Ruhberg said. “With the show being here on a weekend, that allows for a matinee performance along with two evening shows, so hopefully the schedule is accommodating to most families.”

Come before the matinee beginning at noon and expand your experience at Leonardo’s Cafe with a special menu.
“We theme the menu to the show, so that is always a fun way to try new items. This pre-show buffet will feature Mediterranean chicken and roasted pork loin with marsala sauce, as well as a couple amazing desserts,” Ruhberg said.
“And remember our Visual Arts Center is free with a performance ticket. Grab a cocktail from the bars in the lobby, and wander through the eight galleries of art. This is also a great time to introduce friends and family to all of the opportunities the Washington Pavilion has to offer.”
“Anastasia” began performances on Broadway in March 2017 at the Broadhurst Theatre. The show played to sold-out audiences for more than three years before expanding its global “Fanastasia” community with productions on tour across North America and in Japan, Spain, Germany and the Netherlands. Globally, the show has been performed more than 2,500 times and sold 3.4 million tickets.

It’s the perfect show to cap off an extremely successful Broadway Pavilion Performance Series, Ruhberg said.
Did you love the preceding show, “Come From Away?” You weren’t alone. Its weeklong run drew a huge response.
“Sioux Falls came out in droves to see this show – we had the second-highest sales in one week – and the response was amazing,” Ruhberg said. “Of course, the cast and crew loved spending a full week in our community and enjoying our downtown area. Some even made it out to The Empire Mall, and, of course, everyone was awed by Falls Park. Our community did a great job welcoming the Come From Awayers!”
