5 new things to know about Siouxland Libraries

If you haven’t stopped in — or logged in — to Siouxland Libraries lately, you’ll likely be surprised at what’s waiting for you.

Discovery Kits

You can take more home from the libraries than books and audiovisual materials — like these discovery kits.

They’re designed for elementary-age kids and contain books, tools, equipment and toys, along with a binder of ideas and instructions.

Explore your backyard, examine fossils or try coding. From magnetics to magic, there’s enough here to keep your kids busy and learning for a long time. Click here to learn more.

Board games

Did you know the library system also carries board games? The collection has expanded and been added to more locations in the past year. You can search the whole database here.

LinkedIn Learning

This week, the library’s subscription to LyndaLibrary will upgrade to LinkedIn Learning.

Starting April 21, both LyndaLibrary and LinkedIn Learning will be intermittently unavailable during the  transition. After that, you’ll be able to access more than 16,000 courses in seven languages, taught by expert instructors, with more than 60 new courses added each week.

Courses cover areas such as:

  • Leadership and project management
  • Job hunting
  • Mental wellness
  • Photography and videography
  • 3D animation
  • Microsoft Office
  • Digital marketing
  • Cloud computing

Virtual + in-person events

The library system is in hybrid mode with its events at this stage in the pandemic. That means you can log in for virtual trivia nights or preschool story time but also go to the libraries for some programming. Our pick is a make-and-take event for bubble tea designed for teens to be held April 26. Click here to get connected to all library events.

New library cards

More than 2,600 people cast votes with Siouxland Libraries for their favorite new library card design. These four designs will become official library cards soon. P.S. The sloth came out on top.
