When DoorDash driver got arrested, Sioux Falls officer stepped in to finish delivery
When the DoorDash delivery tracker seemingly froze a few blocks from her house, it was Anastasia Elsinger’s first clue that something was off with her arriving lunch.
“I noticed it was just sitting there, like your dasher is arriving soon,” said Elsinger, a graduate student at SDSU who lives in north-central Sioux Falls.
“I thought maybe they went to the wrong house.”
When she looked out the door, she saw a police officer had pulled over a driver.
“Shoot, my food is totally going to be late,” she thought.
Then, the doorbell rang.

Her first thought when she saw Officer Sam Buhr on the other side was to wonder if she’d done something wrong.
Then, she realized he was holding her Arby’s bags.
Her doorbell camera captured the rest.
“I know I’m not who you’re expected,” he says in the video. “But your driver got arrested … so I figured I’d complete the DoorDash for you.”
They both break into laughter throughout the exchange.
“He giggled as he walked away too,” Elsinger said.
The DoorDash driver had been pulled over for a traffic violation when the officer discovered there were outstanding warrants, according to digital news organization Tea Storm Chasers, which received the video from Elsinger and posted it, with an instant response from readers.
As of late morning, it had amassed nearly 20,000 shares.
“I’ve had so many people call me,” Elsigner said. “I debated posting it because it’s a little embarrassing, but it’s too cool.”
The social media universe clearly agrees. When the video became her first-ever post on TikTok, it grew more than 4 million likes in less than 24 hours.
“It’s just this cool thing the officer did, and there’s so much bad in the world I thought the world needs some good,” Elsinger said.
We tried to reach Buhr, but he has the day off. Elsinger hopes to connect with him soon.
“I plan on baking cookies or something,” she said, noting the officer didn’t get the DoorDash tip she’d originally selected.
But neither did her driver.
“I contacted DoorDash and was like, my driver got arrested,” she said, still laughing. “I think I ended up with the whole delivery refunded to me.”
