The Week Ahead is our hand-picked event guide to the next seven days in Sioux Falls and slightly beyond. For guaranteed placement or to promote your event ahead of time, email [email protected] about a featured event listing.

Sept. 16: Wild Scientists

Kids will get the chance to explore their inner scientist with Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation at Galway Park. Join Wild Scientists to make leaf prints, race rocks and pinecones and start an observation journal. The class is catered toward 6 to 9 year olds and will begin at 6 p.m. Registration is required and can be completed at register.siouxfallsparks.org.

Sept. 18-20: Yogi Bear’s Pumpkin Patch Weekend

Celebrate the beginning of fall at Jellystone Park with Yogi Bear’s Pumpkin Patch Weekend. Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be jampacked with activities for all ages, ranging from Halloween games to trick-or-treating to a magic pumpkin patch. Visit Jellystone Park’s website for a full list of activities.

Sept. 18: Puppy Picnic

Shop Dog will host its inaugural puppy picnic, and it’s not just for dogs. The event will consist of mocktails for puppy parents, goat milk smoothies and even a “barkuterie” board for the dogs. The puppy picnic will start at 11 a.m. at Shop Dog Boutique in The Bridges at 57th, and each participant is encouraged to donate $10 to the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society.

Sept. 18: Bluegrass at the Brewery

Lutherans Outdoors is hosting a fundraiser for its teen summer camp programs that will feature live music and food trucks. The event will be hosted at Severance Brewing Co. and will feature “newgrass” band Armchair Boogie from Madison, Wisconsin. Food trucks will begin serving at 5 p.m., and live music will begin at 6 p.m.

Sept. 19: ’50s Drive-In Block Party at First Reformed Church

The First Reformed Church is hosting the 17th annual drive-in block party in its parking lot. The theme, as always, is the ’50s, and partygoers are encouraged to dress up in attire appropriate for the occasion. Attractions include live classic music played by Surfin’ Safari, root beer floats and quarter-pound burgers and a classic car show. Guests also are encouraged to drive their own classic cars for the show, and the party begins at 5 p.m.

All month

Concerts may be over, but you can still do yoga – with a unique twist – at the Levitt Shell for a few more weeks. Hosted by Chelsie’s Pound Champions, Pound is a special type of yoga that incorporates cardio, conditioning and strength training by using drumsticks specially formulated for exercise. The classes will be hosted at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays this month. Registration is required and can be completed at register.siouxfallsparks.org.
