Oct. 23-26: Dog show
The Sioux Empire Kennel Club will host all-breed dog shows and obedience/rally trials over four days at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds, 100 N. Lyon Blvd. The best of the best competition returns, and there will be a dog-costume contest, a chance to meet the breeds, food and dog-related vendors and AKC temperament testing. AKC registered handlers will host a free dog-handling clinic. It starts at 8 a.m. Thursday and concludes Sunday. For information, visit this site.

Oct. 24: Special trunk-or-treating
Teachwell Solutions, 715 E. 14th St., will host a special-needs-friendly, adaptive and inclusive trunk-or-treat for children, teens and adults, accompanied by their friends and families. Cars will be decorated in the holiday spirit. Costumes are encouraged but not required. It will begin at 5 p.m. Friday.

Oct. 25: Theater showcase
The Festival of New Works showcases in-progress pieces by emerging and established playwrights and multidisciplinary artists from the local area. The audience will witness the creative process in action and shape the future of theater in Sioux Falls. The event starts with a 9 a.m. social hour Saturday at Rock Island Studios, 300 N. Phillips Ave.

Oct. 25: Zombie prom
Sioux Falls Zombie Walk is emerging from the grave this year as Zombie Prom: Under the Ground at noon Saturday at Remedy Brewing Co., 401 E. Eighth St. Walk organizers are going back to their roots this year with the prom, but they say the parade will return next year on the 20th anniversary.

Oct. 25 and 29: Trick-or-treat at the malls
The kids eager to dress up? Trick-or-treating at the Western Mall will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday. The annual Mall-o-Ween Spook-tacular will return to The Empire Mall from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday. The event will include candy, costumes, creepy cool fun and the chance to take a spooky picture at a themed photo area.

Oct. 26: Trick-or-treat downtown
Downtown Sioux Falls will be the site of a spooktacular celebration during the DTSF Trick-or-Treat from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at participating businesses. There also will be free ice cream for kids, a Halloween photo backdrop and lots of candy at Falls Overlook Cafe along with games and surprises.

Oct. 29: A night of music
The Archers — The Temporary High Tour Part 2 with Nerv, Of Virtue, Dead Eyes and Strange New Faces is coming to the Icon Events Hall, 402 N. Main Ave. Tickets cost $32, and you can purchase them here. Doors open at 6 p.m.; this is an all-ages event.
