May 19: Senior Recreation Trail Tour

Get out and see the bike trails Thursday with Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation. The tour will take those 55 and older around the bike trail system via golf cart as a way for those who are unable to navigate them on their own. You’ll begin at Dunham Park; multiple tours are taking place throughout the day and each will be an hour long. For the full list of tour times and to register for free, click here.

May 19: Elusive Palisades

Get an in-depth education on the history of the town of Palisades near Garretson. Susan Hoskins, a naturalist for Palisades State Park, will speak about the former boom town and its history and give context for landmarks that still exist in the Garretson area. The talk will take place at the Old Courthouse Museum at 200 W. Sixth St. in Sioux Falls at 7 p.m. Thursday, with a social at 6:30 p.m. The event is free to attend.

May 21: National Kids to the Park Day Fish-a-Thon

Get your kids to the park on National Kids to the Park Day with the Fish-a-Thon hosted by Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation. The Fish-a-Thon will take place from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at Family Park. Prizes will be given out to those younger than 16 for the largest fish, smallest fish and most fish caught. Those fishing who are 16 or older must have a valid fishing license. No registration is required.

May 21: NAMIWalks Your Way 2022

Support the National Alliance on Mental Illness with a 5K walk Saturday. The NAMIWalks Your Way event will feature refreshments, speakers, activities and information about the organization. The walk will begin at 9 a.m., and registration and check-in will begin at 8 a.m. The walk will start at Fawick Park, and participants can choose to complete all of or part of the route. Registration is free and can be completed at this link.

May 21: Country Skate Night

Put on your best cowboy hat and boots and head to Skate City for Country Skate Night on Saturday. You’ll spend the whole night listening to country songs, past and present, for this special skate session. Admission for the event is $7, and skate rental is $3. The event will begin at 8 p.m. and end at 10 p.m., and all ages are welcome to participate in the event. Skate City is at 2901 W. Third St.

May 21: “Clean Up” at Good Earth State Park

Help the Sioux Falls Area Running Club give back to the community by cleaning up Good Earth State Park and its various trails. The group will help pick up litter, plant trees and cut cedars. Members and nonmembers of the club are welcome to help clean up, and each volunteer should bring work gloves and clothing. The cleanup will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday.
