July 14: Hydrant Block Party

It has been exceptionally hot this summer, and if you’re looking for a way to cool off, Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation has an option that should be fun for the whole family.

The Fire Hydrant Block Party will take place at Bakker Park, 6201 W. 61st St.,  and also feature music, books from Siouxland Libraries and games. Of course, the fire hydrants will be open thanks to Sioux Falls Fire Rescue, spraying water for the public to play in. The hydrants will be open from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday.

July 15: Open Barn at Finny Mini Farm

Head to Finny Mini Farm and Sanctuary in Tea for an “open barn” event Friday. The farm will be open to the public for the day, and there will be a recommended donation of $5 per person. You’ll get the chance to interact with all the animals, from baby goats and ducklings to donkeys and piglets. You’re encouraged to bring snacks to feed the animals as well. The barn will be open from 2 to 6 p.m. For a full list of approved snacks and Finny Mini Farm’s address, click here.

July 15: Cascade Boardwalk Bash

Phillips Ave. For a full list of retailers, click here.

July 16: Pup-a-Thon 5K

The Pup-a-Thon will be Saturday, and participants are invited to bring their pets for a 5K run. The run will begin at Spencer Dog Park at 8 a.m., but check-in will begin at 7:30 a.m. Registration is required for this event, and will cost $5. You can register by clicking here.

July 16: South Dakota’s Laziest Race

Not much of a runner but still want to make a difference? Join “South Dakota’s Laziest Race” in benefit of The Compass Center on Saturday. Hosted at JJ’s Wine, Spirits & Cigars, this 0.5K “race” will benefit survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. The race will take place entirely on JJ’s campus, and there will be several rest stops throughout. Registration will cost $30 for adults and $20 for children 10 and younger. JJ’s is at 3000 W. 57th St., and you can register for the race here.

July 17: Princess Party
