The Week Ahead is our hand-picked event guide to the next seven days in Sioux Falls and slightly beyond. For guaranteed placement or to promote your event ahead of time, email [email protected] about a featured event listing.

Feb. 12-16: Holiday fun

Join the Sioux Falls Parks & Recreation Department this weekend for the Presidents Day Bash at Midco Aquatic Center. The Wibit Log Roll will be available Friday through Monday. Register here for the cardboard battleship competitions with Nerf guns from noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Once you’re registered, stop by the aquatic center through Friday to craft your battleship. Tape and cardboard will be provided while supplies last, and you can leave your ship there. You also can register here to decorate Valentine’s Day cookies from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Slots for Sunday’s rubber duck race are full, but you can watch the fun from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Feb. 13: Dueling Duo

Hope Haven will present a dueling piano show with the Dueling Duo on Friday at The District, 4521 W. Empire Place. Doors open at 7 p.m., with the 21-and-older show starting at 8 p.m. Tickets for the general admission balcony are available.

Feb. 14: Galentine’s Day

Nordic Hall, 218 W. 13th St., will host Galentine’s Day fun from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Several women-owned small businesses will offer a variety of activities, shopping and tastings, including Simply Put Coffee, Re-Luxe Massage Therapy, Sweet Honey Sweaters, Kelo Kolor, Midnight Spark Permanent Jewelry and Webers Treats on the Go. No appointments are needed; it’s an open house.

Feb. 14: Degenerate Breakfast

Not all breakfasts are for winners, say the folks at Covert Artisan Ales, 601 S. Watson Ave.  “Some are for rolling out of bed at noon and making questionable life choices before you’ve even had coffee. Enter Degenerate Breakfast, the maple coffee porter that knows exactly who you are — and loves you for it.” Learn more about it here, and plan on tasting it at 1 p.m. Saturday in the brewery’s new on-site taproom.

Feb. 14: Adult prom

Roscoe’s Kitchen will cater the Valentine’s Day adult prom from 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday at Lucky’s Bar, 224 S. Phillips Ave. The 21-plus event will cost $80 for couples and $45 for singles. DJ Izzy will provide the music with performances by MaximumPhil and Soleil Bashale. Dinner will be served from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m., with DJ music from 7:45 to 9 p.m., followed by live entertainment and more music throughout the evening. Ticket sales end Friday at the bar.

Feb. 15: Couple cake decorating

Make Your Day Cakes is hosting a couples’ cake-decorating class from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at The Social, 301 S. Thompson Ave. You’ll decorate a Valentine-inspired cake side by side with someone special, sip something yummy and leave with the sweet treat. Tickets cost $150.

Coming up: Feb. 22

Tecmo Siouxper Bowl celebrates adult friendship and retro video games and raises funds for the Family Visitation Center of Sioux Falls. The 10th annual event will begin at 2 p.m. Feb. 22 in Blarney Stone Pub’s lower level. The main tournament will play the 1991 Nintendo game version. Additional retro video games such as Mario Kart and NBA Jam are available for challenge plays. Brackets are for adults and youths. There will be a raffle, door prizes and prizes for the best ’90s apparel. The event is free, although participants are asked to make a donation to the Family Visitation Center, which provides a place for safe, supervised visits and exchanges with the goal that children are emotionally, physically and mentally safe.
