Dec. 11: Honey class

Learn how to taste and appreciate honey in a class with Dakota Honey at 7 p.m. Thursday. The event costs $20 and takes place at Big Lost Meadery & Brewery, 2215 S. Lorraine Place. Guest instructors Zach and Rheanna Pederson from Dakota Honey will help you learn the different types of honey, how to taste it and more.

Dec. 12: Night of Music

For an evening of music, visit Full Circle Book Co-op, 123 W. 10th St., beginning at 7 p.m. Friday. Performers include Emerald Skies, Man Seeking Mountain, Sunglass and Micah Kittelson.

Dec. 12-13: 50th festival

Legend says that St. Lucia brought food to the people of Sweden who were dying of hunger during a famine. This is the 50th year that St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 2001 S. Elmwood Ave., has hosted a St. Lucia Festival. The free event celebrates community, light, family, children and good food. Doors open at 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with the event beginning at 7 p.m. Freewill donations will support Pueblo de Dios.

Dec. 13: Doggie Holiday Pawty

Christmas comes early for the canines in your life with this event at the Kirby Dog Park at 201 S. Second Ave. from 1 to 3 p.m. Take photos with the Grinch, enter an ugly sweater contest, and shop a doggie stocking stuffing station from area dog vendors. Click here for details.

Dec. 13: Reindeer Games

Head over to the Westside Recreation Center, 8701 W. 32nd St., for the Reindeer Games from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. Play games, take photos and win prizes while singing along with your favorite Christmas carols. The event is free with a daily pass or membership.

Dec. 13: Clay creations

Make time for creativity in a workshop that uses simple hand-building techniques to craft a ceramic planter. Experienced ceramics instructors will guide participants step by step. Finished pieces will be ready in two weeks. Participants 14 and younger must attend with a registered adult. Cost is $56 to $62. The event is from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Washington Pavilion. Dec. 14: Ladies mixer

AR Workshop will host a ladies mixer from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at 2101 W. 41st St. Your ticket will include a Christmas-themed adult beverage or mocktail and the chance to make an item at each of three holiday crafting stations, including ornaments and candles. Tickets are available here.

Dec. 16: Military appreciation

Lights on Lotta and Big Paws Canine Foundation will host a special evening honoring members of the military, veterans and first responders. It will begin at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at 311 W. Lotta St. Freewill offerings will benefit Big Paws and K9s for Warriors, which provides service dogs to veterans in need.

Coming up: Dec. 18 and 20

You have two chances to have “Dinner With King Tut.” Author and Sioux Falls native Sam Kean will discuss his latest book twice at Siouxland Libraries’ main branch, 200 N. Dakota Ave. The book talks about the advancement in science that allows researchers to explore taste, textures, sounds and smells of the past. The first is at 6 p.m. Dec. 18 with the second at 2 p.m. Dec. 20. It is free, but registration is required. Reserve your spot here.
